JRod throwing a tantrum on the bench Long's 1.5 goals make it look like Claude picked the right option. Feel for Jay, but he's paying the price for being pretty poor v Wham

Gabbiadini is just what the doctor ordered, providing what Saints have been missing as someone who can finish and as Jehram added on the match thread, adding that bit of guile. Now get Caceres in and VVD fit again and things will be much rosier. This is good for everyones confidence ahead of the cup final.

Huge difference in the team. Foster held a coupleven of tricky shots too which will do his confidence good
Add a fit VVD in their and, as someone else said, it's a nice positive outlook

Hopefully it's a sign of our luck (which has been crap for quite a while now) changing too.. we were a bit under the cosh at first and if that first goal had hit his arm more obviously and been disallowed it could have been a different story. Once we were ahead there was only really one outcome.

Fantastic. Especially as we were very poor in the first 25mins but after the first goal we totally dominated, any amount of goals were then possible, Sunderland just gave up

If you remember, for the 2003 FACup Final, Strachan made a mistake with team selection in the game before the final and Saints got stuffed. The end result was the team arrived in Cardiff low on confidence and the fans were not expecting to win, but were intent on enjoying the day.
This time, in the last game for us before the big day, Saints thrash Sunderland and realise that it is possible to score more than one goal per game. We have a talisman in Gabbiadini, someone who is easily good enough to score against ManU. The team and fans must head to Wembley in good heart.

One can only assume he played that formation today with an eye on playing it in the cup final. As a first attempt it seemed to go reasonably well, and he's now got 2 weeks on the training pitch to fine tune. I also think we probably saw the starting line-up today. That team on form is every bit a match for Utd.
