gianlucadimarzio.com/en/bologna-southamptons-gabbiadinis-latest-idea-for-the-attack-the-detailsStriker Manolo Gabbiadini is the newest idea for Bologna to replace Verdi. Besides Orsolini, whose agent met with the club today, the Rossoblu are thinking about bringing Gabbiadini back to Bologna, where he played one season in 2013. Gabbiadini's agent have already talked with Bologna about this possibility to move back to Italy in this transfer window. Should Southampton decide to keep him for this second part of the season, Bologna could decide postpone his transfer to summer.

We are desperately short of goals and don’t use him, so why not

Our treatment of him has been appalling. We have taken an in-form international striker and turned him into... well, I don’t actually know what he’s turned into, but it isn’t a striker.

At least we can't be blamed for losing him his world cup place.
If Italy had qualified, Gabbi would already be back in Italy.

I saw this on Twitter during the night. fecking ridiculous and shows how muddled our thinking is. Keep Pellegrino who has made almost all our players go backwards, with the possible exception of JWP, and let our one class forward go. FFS Les, what has got into you?

Gabbiadini was the completly wrong sort of player to be played as the lone striker. We had spent 4 years in the PL playing with a strong CF in Lambert and then Pelle who could not only score but provide assists too. Gabbiadini will never be this sort of player. We continue to be at the top of the league in terms of crosses put in but what's the point when they are aimed a 5 foot 7 8 stone bloke? (Black Box? PMSL).
There seems to be some sort of inverse snobbery with him. He gets far more plaudits than he should just because he's Italian and well, we should all love Italian strikers shouldn't we.
His record is less than amazing. 26 years old - forty something goals in his career and never more than 8 in a season.
Maybe we would be better playing alongside a striker as Rodriguez did with Lambert but this was not what he was bought for.
But, yes a manager less incompetent than Pellegrino would get more from him.

You may be shocked, but I completely agree with you on this. I am. I even thought that Puel played him out of position, but such was his scorching start, his confidence carried him through. I had always thought of him as an support striker or wide (ish) player.

He is mainly over-rated by Saints fans because he started off so well that people assumed that was his natural level when it was just a phase of good form that many players go through temporarily (JWP currently looks like a natural goalscorer this month). Plainly has some talent but ideas above his station as he apparently wanted that central role when the old Jay Rod role seems ideal for him as mentioned above.
He would do well if supporting someone like Llorente for example, we can only hope that someone at the club is planning for this.

So, he is not being used right, right? That's what we've been saying since the start of the season. Use him right and we'll start scoring. But Autin and Long are better propositions, clearly. We could have at least tried. It's not as though he has shown that he can't score.

Just to reiterate, if you think Long is a better option than Gabbi, then you’re thick as mince.
He’s a natural goal scorer who we have not utilised or given a proper chance to show what he can do. He will thrive in a team that plays to his strengths. This won’t happen under the current manager. I don’t blame him if he moves, but I’d prefer him to stay and MP to go.
I sometimes wonder if a majority of Saints fans live in a dream world, where players are able to be world beaters 100% of the time. Where young players should come into the team and score a hat-trick every game. This belief in the immediacy of talent, it’s unfair and short sighted. We should nurture talent, but no, let’s whinge and boo and assume the world is ending because in some autistic realm, life doesn’t work as we want it to.

Take a look at his career record, it's a few goals a season, nothing more. He left Napoli as he was wasn't scoring and thought the team wasn't playing to his strengths and ends up here were he isn't scoring, etc.....
