Very happy off course. A shame that it is too late for him to play against ajax tomorrow. His experience will be vital. If someone like RVP says something it really means something to those youngsters. Something Saints is missing atm. Back in the 80's and probably up until recently we always had a real solid older experienced player, as you say they have a good influence on the team, something we really are missing. should we play Kelvin?

Fair point..while he may've been on the wane as a player, our slide seems to have coincided with when Jose's head was turned..with the benefit of hindsight, that one seems to have hurt us more than we realised at the time.

Long / Davis / Tadic over 200 caps between them.......plenty of experience there. We all seem to agree the squad is decent, so its all down to getting them playing.....

And Yoshida, Bertrand (CL final) and Cedric (euro winner) there's plenty of experience in this squad

I don't think it's a question of caps. I was thinking about a good no nonsence player that has been around the block, your Mick Mills, Jimmy Case, David Armstrong. As soon as I posted I thought of Steven Davis, then we have Yoshida so I take it all back.

S Davis can hold his own in the group you mention, I think, but he is not consistently in the team and is not really a mr motivator, he doesn't wind up the team the way Case did, for instance. It struck me the other day, we don't even have the same captain from week to week. No wonder we have no leadership. BITD, Mills, Case, Armstrong, Ball, Wright, Svensson, Nicholl etc etc etc were all automatically on the team sheet. Now, when we are back in the relegation dog fight, we have no one who is yelling at the team day in, day out. No one establishes authority over or fear in the others. Jose was getting there, but had become too much of a liability. I don't think Virgil would have got there, either. Too much of a loner on the pitch. We need someone like Charlie Adams. Maybe even a Shelvey? [Puts on tin hat.]

I'm not saying Jose was the best leader, but he'd been with us throughout the rise up the leagues and that probably meant something to bringing the team together. While those mentioned above have plenty of experience, they just don't feel quite as central to the team.
