Building a station is not the issue, the problem, if I recall correctly, is with the track layout; a train can come and go from the Eastleigh direction but not from Southampton Central direction. This is what would cost the large sums of money to do.

They were on a DVD sent out to Season Ticket holders with their cards, probably in the second year of Marcus' tenure. The architects were the same as the ones that subsequently did Staplewood. The fact that Ralph is saying that proves absolutely nothing, as we well know. Ah ok, those. They weren't really plans though. I liked Cortese more than most but even I recognised that as a piece of nice PR bulshit with about as much chance as happening as Pompey's stadia by the sea. It was just some nice cgi pics that Cortese must have spent a few grand getting a company to knock up for him. Most of what Kreuger says is incoherent but I think we can rest assured he is saying the truth when, every year, he confirms 'no plans to re-develop the stadium'. Makes sense as our owner has no great personal wealth and even though his company do that sort of thing there would have to be a viable business reason to do that in the area around SMS which I can't really see there ever being. I don't think Cortese's drawings were detailed, but they at least showed that the club was looking at the possibilities for the future. I would argue that if there are no plans for redevelopment in existence, even if they might be lacking in fine detail, then that smacks of a spectacular lack of forward planning, which is exactly why we got into a mess in the last couple of seasons.

I think you completly correct. The lack of planning (and indeed the lack of anyone to plan) is exactly the reason for our rapid decline. Forget looking 5 years in the future, I don't think anyone in the club currently looks 5 weeks into the future.

the Dell- when I started going there in the late 60s it was dreadful, uncovered ends meant you got soaked most weeks, very few all ticket game meant you had to get there 2 hours before kick off, the toilets were disgusting and there were virtually no catering facilities, the view was dreadful, fortunately by the time I got to 15 I was 6ft tall but even then you rarely could see the whole pitch. By the time the Dell closed, apart from having a very small capacity,,it was actually ok, improvements were made every year and Saints had made the best of the space available
