You'll have to forgive me I don't know if this is the right section to put this in, or use the Transfer News thread in the above section...so I am using BOTH... It seems as if Hughes wants Ings, and according to nearly all media outlets we value him at £10m maximum, Liverpool, probably remembering how much we stuck them for VvD want DOUBLE that. This will go nowhere soon, no way is Ings worth that much with his recent injury record. Doubtful he would be worth that if he was injury free, he just don't score enough goals at PL standard. We could advise him to go on strike as they did with van Dyjk, but he is not that essential to Liverpool as Van Dyjk was to us at the time. Hughes may have to change his target over this one in this window. Maybe get a loan striker to cover the time we will have wait. It's unfortunate for the lad to get caught up between two clubs at each others throats. He too may have to take a temporary move.

Ings should post on social media a picture of him looking lonely and longingly through the window of a bus.

Hughes may have to change his target over this one in this window. Maybe get a loan striker to cover the time we will have wait. It's unfortunate for the lad to get caught up between two clubs at each others throats. He too may have to take a temporary move. If it is at the right price (and I think the club are about right at 10m) then I can’t see much downside to signing Ings. The club are obviously aware of his injuries and the risk of him getting back to how he was, but that is reflected in the amount we are prepared to pay for him. He is at an age where he could put his injury worries behind him and still make a good career. Steven Gerrard was horribly injury prone until about 26, but then his body seemed to grow out of it. If Ings can do similar, he could be a really excellent acquisition. But we all need to be mindful of what we are actually signing. We won’t be signing him to lead the line, to be our main front line striker. Hughes is not stupid enough to build our way of playing around him, because we don’t have anyone who can do the same as him if he were to get injured. We will be signing someone who can offer something a bit different; a striker with a bit of skill, a bit of pace over 10 yards and good finishing ability. He can also stretch a game in the last 20 with his channel runs. He also works hard defensively from the front. In short, a really useful player to bring on in the last 20 who isn’t Shane Long. For me it is clear that Hughes is trying to get as many options in the squad as he can; different types of players in key positions, so he can play each moment of each game as he thinks best. Having Ings in the squad would definitely contribute to that. Striker options of Gabbs, Austin, Ings and Gallagher or Long would give Hughes great variation in how to play. There’s also ‘gut feel’, and my instinct tells me that Ings would be good for us, and we for him. Liverpool have moved on since he signed for them, but there won’t be many clubs prepared to give him a chance, especially if Liverpool over-value him so much. If the only opportunity is a loan, we should still go for it, as long as there is the option to buy at a price set by the number of appearances and goals while he is on loan. In other words, prove his fitness before committing the sort of money Liverpool want. Liverpool will gamble on the fact that he could have a successful loan spell at any Premier League club and in a year his value will be at the 20m mark. That loan may as well be with us.

Another possible scenario. There have been rumours of Reading wanting Shane Long, who will probably look at our squad now and think he’s going to struggle for minutes. So maybe he wants a move, which would also be good for Saints because, well, he’s not very good.
That gives Hughes 2 options; spend big on a front line striker and shunt Gabbs, Austin and Gallagher down the pecking order. Or he might have confidence in those guys, and instead buy a ‘safety net’ like Ings, who won’t be expensive, but can step up if the gamble of including Gallagher in the squad doesn’t pay off.
So I think there are two possibilities; either we buy a front line striker (we’ve been linked with Vincent Aboubakar from Porto- 30 plus goals in 60 games) in which case we let Gallagher go, or we buy Ings and let Long go, in the hope that Gallagher puts genuine pressure on Gabbs for the starting spot, but with the recognition that it might not work out for Gallagher, but at least we’ve got another option in Ings.

That's the sort of thinking that makes you IBOs MVP if TUI or saintsweb come in for you we'll be demanding a transfer record and I know that we already got Pat on a free but that's their fault for letting him go.

Jeez. I’ve made the odd sub appearance for Saintsweb recently but it hasn’t been pretty. I don’t think the foaming masses over there go for my measured approach. The latest hilarity over there is that vast swathes think Bertrand should be our ‘Kyle Walker’ in a back three. Despite the fact that he’s one of the best wing backs in the country and we’ve just signed another CB.

TSW eh? Yeah I post on there on very rare occasions. Same old, same old, without enough humour for me. TUI... I like Nick, and cannot forget what he did for the club when we went into Admin. He loves his freedom of speach. But, that must come with some responsiblities on the part of posters. The state of TUI at present is an insult to him. We all know how crazy it got with a far east poster( I don't mean far east UK).It has not recovered. I think you all can see it, it's sheer unpleasant. The old ugly had humour, it had music, and everyone respected one another. That's history now I'm afraid. Some good people have left there after becoming victims of abuse from a gang of newbies I named the 'Hyenas'. That pack is getting bigger and bolder. There is a clear agenda to finish off the ugly as it was from them. A sad affair. If that happens I hope Nick has more fortune in whatever venture he decides to partake, and a much more peaceful life..
I'm just glad there's an IBO out there, a real Saints fans site, and thankyou for welcoming me. I cannot get down SMS more than once or twice a year, and a site like this is a godsent to 'keep in touch' chat about all that is Saints.

the Ugly Inside has degenerated a lot from the old days. Not a lot of football but a lot of bitching. Still it is fun sometimes to drop a brick in the pond and watch the eels squirm. It will endure in a more Reddit mentality where all posts are shredded ready for the next. Some like it that way. Each to there own.

I look at both TSW and TUI sometimes. The old Saints Forever (which became the Saints Web) was good until Keith handed it over to Steve Grant and Baj (I think that's his name), and from there it nosedived into an absolute cesspit and most of the old posters are gone, driven away by the rabid few on there. They spend their time bitching, trolling and point scoring rather than having a discussion and people get banned only to resurface under a new username. As for TUI, I gave up trying to work out who is genuine and who has multiple IDs.

Rather than trawl the interweb, they’re all in one place. But generally I then don’t go on there from Sept to May. Haven’t been on TUI for years; don’t think I’ve even looked at it since this place was formed.

I use News Now's Southampton news feed. Yes there's some crap on there (Xxxxxxx MUST sign So-and-so Player) but that's generally handy for all the stories and reports in one place.

I only need the IBO, and haven't looked at any other Saints forum since this was started. Of course I do need the OS (or, more recently the official twitter site) to confirm a new signing.
