Reading a couple of Everton sites this morning we now seem to have a reputation as a hard working outfit, rather than a talented side. I have no issues with that. At the moment! hard working outfits pick up points merely talented sides end up with pppppenguins

I’ll certainly take it. Hard-working is the bare minimum that a Premier League side should be, so I think there is a little more to us than that, given that we’re in the Top 6 for form since Ralph arrived. But still, it is a step up from the Hughes Holiday Camp, which had us blowing out of our arses on 60 minutes every game. But this season is only about eking out results and Ralph learning which players deserve to play for Southampton. Next season is to blow the Premier League apart.

The best our lovely little club can really hope for and a life cycle I'm perfectly happy with. Our highs are that much better because we have to experience the lows that go with it. Imagine being an Arsenal fan, always expecting more and never being happy with what you have. when you win something, it's expected, when you don't, it's the end of the feckin universe.

Agree with this totally, and it is why I can never understand a glory hunter. Where is the fun in supporting one of the top 4 - 6 unless your heart really is in it and you have been through the lean years. I could add to that, that I really would hate it if we became another Man City. It might be good for a few seasons, but then the novelty would wear off.

The only real redeeming factor once the novelty has worn off would be the very good football week in, week out. The fact that they don't fill their stadium on many Champions League nights tells you all you need to know. The hardcore will always go, but feel more and more detached from the club as time goes by. The "plastics" have not yet reached the same levels as they have with their rivals. I never want to lose the feeling of delirium when we score. Expecting to win is nowhere near as fun as winning against the odds.

Add in one - just one, is all I ask for - cup win in the next few years, I don't care if it's the FA Cup or the League Cup and I'd be happy with the above (it's a bit shit that we only have one FA Cup win and that was when I was 6 years old ffs, so I barely remember it) If we can be the best of the rest from next season and bloody a few 'big six' noses now and then (how I would LOVE it if we threw a spanner in Liverpool's title bid this season) then that'd do. It's unlikely we'd 'do a Leicester', that was a fluke of a season.

From 7th to 12th is very tight now and I guess that Saints must concentrate on closing the gap to Bournemouth in 12th place, which is at present a whopping 8 points. If we manage to keep picking up wins at the present rate, then that is possible. We will then see the media taking more of an interest and the plastics will see us as more attractive.

In the quiet moments when I have nothing cluttering my mind I often close my eyes and picture Francis Benali lifting the Bob Holnesss Memorial Cup at the Kassam Stadium.

Are we confident that Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff will not improve thier lot and finish below us?
It only took 4-5 weeks to get us up to our present standard, who is to say one of those 3 won't?
Injuries (which we are prone to get) and suspensions, soon change the form of clubs.
