We all knew he was a top bloke, this is additional proof.

LOL - sorry but that looks like adolescent cod psychology to me. 14 year old cover of rough book stuff.
Can't believe Nige wrote that.

Nobody doubts he's a very nice man, regardless of whether that's his hand or not. Nice bloke done us proud. Good luck.

My housemate has been playing that 'man in the glass' vid at full volume all day. He's much angrier about this than I am.

If that's real, that's amazingly sad. It speaks volumes about NA that he has not issued any statement in the immediate aftermath.
I understand what the chairman is doing, and I'm not making a knee-jerk reaction - I fully expected this to happen in the summer. Now, and after recent results seems so cold. It's obviously not a decision that's been made to keep us up - it's been made for next season and beyond. I would like to think that we didn't treat employees in such fashion.

It's obviously not a decision that's been made to keep us up - it's been made for next season and beyond. I would like to think that we didn't treat employees in such fashion. What do you reckon Adkins relationship with the players was like? I was talking to Shirley earlier and we agreed that they were all obviously fond of him but not close. I wonder if his smoke and mirrors/middle-management babble translated to his relationships with the players behind the scenes. If so I'd find that quite infuriating. And god forbid he ever recited trite poems at the training ground. It's a tough one to call. I sensed that Rickie probably didn't enjoy those games he started as sub. Saying that, I couldn't escape the sobering prongs of sentiment when i was reminded of the interview with him after the Coventry promotion game when he asked, with an overwhelmed, glassy-eyed distraction, if he could just go and be with his team. A top man, no doubt. Still, think of it this way- Kelvin Davis is also an absolute diamond. A genuine, warm, reliable club ambassador and an asset to the bonhomie of any squad. Once he reached his zenith though, and his frailties in the top league were realised, we knew we had to do something about it. It's tough to drop someone you like but the best managers can do that with an often icy detachment because its necessary if you want to win matches and improve. An upgrade of manager is exactly the same principle. it's tough but the best chairmen can make those brave decisions in the quest for improvement despite an inevitable backlash. Sentiment doesn't win matches.

I wonder what the players go through in this kind of situation. What short-term and long-term effects come of such a decision...

Sentiment doesn't win matches. Yes, you're right. I guess nobody knows how close the squad actually were to him. All this would be much easier to swallow if NA hadn't been so immensely likeable and positive.

I wonder what the players go through in this kind of situation. What short-term and long-term effects come of such a decision... Quite. I'd love to ask SRL how he felt about it all. My guess is they're thoroughly professional and will give their all for the new manager from the off. Unlike the nauseating Chelsea clique.

I suspect most of the squad were very happy with him, most of the time.
They may not always have understood what he was doing; on the pitch they some sometimes looked bewildered at the start of the second half, but Nigel criticised neither individuals nor the team as a whole. He never pushed responsibility for losses or draws onto the referee. This season, though at times he had all the right in the world, he never droned on about bad luck or the opposition playing solely to shut us down (and what a compliment that was.) Nige went into battle with the team every match, he obviously believed in taking responsibility for his actions and he instilled that quality in the players.
He must have been instrumental in bringing Punch in from the cold and re-building him to the talent we have today. He must have been instrumental in turning an out-of-condition, out-of-form, frustrated to the point of chucking stuff into the crowd Boruc into someone who looks like he will be a committed (as in dedicated, not mental) asset to the squad.
The players will have respected that loyalty, the belief that he showed in them and his desire to help them achieve their best - as well as the clarity when others didn't fit into the picture. They will have known that even with that loyalty they were playing for their places in the squad, and as professionals my guess is that most will have enjoyed knowing that they were playing for a professional.

By the way - my suspicion is that SRL's days are numbered. Don't think tactically he will be versatile enough for new manager. Parting of the ways in summer.

The picture reminds me of something a wise goat said to me yesterday when talking about Nigel, he talks a lot but doesn't say anything.

I can kinda believe he'dve written that (which isn't to say he did)...
..for better or worse, I doubt we'll ever have another manager of quite his integrity and sunny disposition again. There's only one Nigel Adkins, even if he's not out Nigel Adkins any more.
