I played some classic Subbuteo matches at Wembley (ie. the dining table, instead of the floor). I do not believe the notebook containing all results still exists, so cannot provide the Top 3 unfortunately. Obviously all of these matches were against myself, not other people, like 97% of all Subbuteo matches ever played

A first post of quality Jickster.
My Subbuteo matches were also mainly solitary although there was a little bit of a League going for a while. The Pine Drive League. There was that sickening crunch as you knelt on your left back who had strayed too close to the touch-line. The magic sponge contained UHU but usually the resulting mend was decidedly unsatisfactory.
If you have never heard "All I want for Xmas is a Dukla Prague away kit" by Half Man Half Biscuit it's worth a listen, it sums up the Subbuteo years very nicely.

I use to have the Wembley board game which I played mostly on my own and always contrived to get Saints to win.

76 FA cup win JPT Daily Express 5 aside c 1984? back of the net, sir - altho our Wembley Arena 5-a-sides glory run was actually 1983. extra points if you'd gone for when we previously won it in 1973, obv.

Now, you know I like you all, right! However top of the IBO pops now and probably for ever more is Mr Startled who not only had a ticket for me, hand delivered it to my house and only charged facer for it. He also had to witness the catastrophe that is our lounge/play room/nits reducing salon, for good measure.
The rest of you need to raise you're game if you'll ever compete with that.
'76 was watched at Roger and Sheila's house in Bitterne, curtains pulled natch, and we'd been to the Green Shield Stamp shop that morning in East St. '03 was watched in the Silver Fern in Warsash which is rather odd as I haven't been in there before or since despite that being my dads boozer BITD. '17 watched from Entrance K, Block 545, Row 15, Seat 175...
