I know it's very early days and definitely too early to judge but there are definitely elements of Smallbone's game so far that have put me in mind of Frank Lampard. He's not afraid of a shot, he's robust, his passing is efficient and unfusy and the way he put Ings in yesterday was very much a Lampard sort of play.
I'm not suggesting he'll go on to be that good but he's got good attributes

Definitely played higher up than Morgan, I thought more of an Anders Svensson type player.

I liked seeing him have a go at one of the other players (wish I could remember who) early on in the game for trying a ridiculously overambitious long ball to a striker instead of feeding him in space just inside Watford's half. He certainly looks up to standard. Hopefully he can contribute goals, but it took Lampard a while to find his goalscoring rhythm so it might take a while. For next season, I guess it depends who/if we bring anyone in to replace Hojbjerg but you'd certainly expect Smallbone to be a semi-regular starter at least.

I think the kid looks ridiculously promising and have been impressed how he has beefed up during lockdown. I know he is still thin, but compare pictures of his first appearance in the first team with now and his legs in particular have bulked up. He has an old head on a very young body, so he is at the beginning of his career and has to be allowed time to develop. I look forward to seeing him do so.

Definitely played higher up than Morgan, I thought more of an Anders Svensson type player. Not so much as where he played, more the way he moved around the pitch, and seemed connected to the play....even when he wasn't part if the play.
