Couldn't quite believe this article, but it did make me stop and think. Personally I have really enjoyed the restart, so have Saints, with 6 out of an available 9 points and 6 goals scored, with 3 conceded. Could this be a case of bigclubitus, or just moaning for moanings sake? I think that the clubs have done damned well to get up and running in such a short timescale. Strange times were always going to present the restart as something different and it is totally unrealistic to expect them to continue at the level was when they had to stop.

It is what it is.
I suppose these meeja types get off on overthinking everything but, given we are in a unique football era, I'm impressed that we are getting anything to watch. I do think the lack of home support DOES make a big difference - not to Saints obviously but at a number of the so-called lesser clubs. Whatever happens Leicester, Burnley and Sheffield United have had good seasons. Without Covid they may have been great seasons. They are the obvious top end sufferers of the restart but Wolves have carried on with 3 straight wins: but they have played only relegation fodder so far. If they turn over Arsenal too, they will look more of an exception.
It is at the bottom where the relegation battle has lost any "battle". I thought Brighton were bucking that trend but their capitulation to the Red Mancs was as unusual as it was unwanted. United usually get a hard time at the Amex and it does seem the lack of fervent supporters hurts the smaller clubs more. Simple truth is the rich clubs have better players. When some of the advantages other clubs enjoy are removed, those sides packed with obscenely paid, top internationals will enjoy greater success.
Don't think there is any drop in quality. What we miss is the intensity of our competitive league.
Remember, any football is better than no football and any football is better than all egg chasing!

One thing that is noticeable is that the 'better' team always seems to win now and there are precious few upsets. The bookies are taking a hammering lol!

No drop in quality - some in fitness and motivation. The atmosphere generated by the crowd does add so much - Even a poor game quality wise, but with the tackles flying in, in the rain, under lights etc can seem like an exiting match. Compare with Summer, no crowds, drinks breaks, 5 subs.
Any team relying on their 'intimidating atmosphere' at home are going to suffer a bit. The drinks breaks allow any team under the hammer to re-group a bit. That helped us at Watford.
