Morning
Just back from taking my car to the garage for a full service, so that will be expensive, even though we haven't even done eight thousand miles. The lockdown period, where the car didn't even come out of our garage for about three months, probably saved us about three thousand miles.
I needed to look at the match highlights on the club OS yesterday to check a couple of things in my notes about the Crystal Palace game, but guess what? The club OS was down for the majority of the day and all I could get was the Cloudflare cached pages. Not a whole lot of use. So, I am running a day late now, but the report should be finished and up this evening.
The weather is very 'Indian Summer', so I will do some more gardening, even though I can't get a slot at any of the council recycling centres until midway through next week. Arse to that sort of thing.
Anyway, enjoy the day.

Morning Beauties
I'm afraid I have another anti-bureaucracy rant (see later) so gird your loins and read on.
Registered the death and have notified "Tell us Once"* for the governmental aspects. Barclays were brilliant - one call for all his banking and credit cards! Tesco Bank less so. Could not penetrate the automated noise so have written them a letter. Must next do all his commercial and charity contacts. Drew was the most generous person I knew. The charity sector will take a hit with his passing. Funeral booked and Minister (does religious and humanist celebrations) contacted.
<RANT> The "Tell us Once" idea sounded great as most government and council departments can be advised of the death using a single reference provided by the Registrar. No more posting certificates (now £11 a throw) to umpteen different departments. It even tells his NHS pension provider. Sadly I'm the sort of tax-paying mug who falls foul of the government simply for telling the truth. Two of the questions are to do with the DVLA. Andy's Driving License had expired so did not need cancelling. Then they asked if he was a registered vehicle - keeper. He was. The Motability lease was in his name even though I was the only named driver. I ticked the box and provided the registration #. Realising that the Kuga would, like Cinderella's crystal carriage, turn into a pumpkin at midnight, I thought it prudent to phone Motability too. The first question the guy asked was how I answered the question about Drew being the vehicle keeper. He said that was a shame as what that question means is "Shall we cancel the Road Tax?" I just had. No road tax means no insurance so I was no longer able to drive the useless hunk of metal sat on our drive!<RANT OVER>
Motability are, and always have been, absolutely brilliant. They didn't want the Kuga back till the middle of October and as I can no longer drive it they're paying to hire me a Focus Estate to keep me mobile at this busy time. It arrives today.
Last night's results saw Saints rise to 14th in the table. One assumes Villa and Burnley will also go down when they play their games in hand against the big Manc clubs.
I'm advised we can have up to 28 mourners at Drew's funeral but in the current climate it should be "By invitation only"!

Eh, where did my morning post go?
Morning (now afternoon)
Not as warm today; which for the purposes of working is a bit better, yesterday my little office was a right sweatbox. Still it wasn't all bad as I managed to work through and slope off a smidge early for a swim & bbq on the beach, which was most pleasant.
Next on the agenda is finishing our plans for our trip to the land of insanity on Fri.. juggling whoever we want to see against who actually wants to have us in their houses. Trickiest is my folks, who don't want us in the house but of course must be seen. It'll be fine if the weather's ok as can just have lunch in the garden, but if it's p'ing down, it'll be all a bit tricky.
Spose I'd better grab my lunch as another meeting hoves into view.

Happy sports day!
Last night the Dallas Stars advanced to the NHL Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 2000. In round 1 vs. Calgary they were 11 seconds away from going down an insurmountable 3 games to 1 in a best of seven series before tying and ultimately winning in overtime. In the second round vs Colorado in game 7 they tied the game with only 3:30 left, then won in overtime to advance Last night in the third round game 5 they were down by 2 with 10 mins to go, then came back to tie and again won in overtime to advance. So far they are 5-0 in overtime games. Unbelievable. Next up is the winner of Tampa Bay vs. New York Islanders. Tampa Bay are incredibly talented. Don't give Dallas much shot, but honestly I had no hope they would advance this far!

Just as well that there is the NHL and College Football. I was reading an interview with Zachary Levi this morning, star of the 'Chuck' TV series and also starring in the Marvel film 'Shazam' from last year. It seems he has recently moved from LA to Austin. I wonder why? If he is in the Film/TV business, wouldn't it make sense to be in LA, where all the dealmakers are, or has Austin got it's own production business area now?

Austin has become popular for a lot of hollywood actors. Sandra Bullock moved here after filming 'Hope Floats' (in the town I graduated from, Smithville TX - my sister worked in a local pizza parlor during high school and delivered to the post production party). Matthew McConaughey is from here so doesn't count. Jonah Hill, some others... climate is similar to California but cheaper and not as crowded as LA. Lots of fun outdoor stuff to do and good music scene. No major production here I'm aware of though.
Speaking of TV, I started watching 'Cobra Kai' this week. Didn't expect much, but it's entertaining. Same major actors doing a follow up of 'Karate Kid' (and capitalizing on the 80s nostalgia 'Stranger Things' popularized). The characters and story line are complex. Lots of good intention coupled with misunderstanding and underlying bias makes for a compelling show.
Also, the Southampton loss was disappointing, but I thought the away uniforms looked really sharp.

Maybe people are moving to Austin for the punk rock history?
I'm exhausted, work is just bonkers. I really need a band practise, but I have to wait a week for that. I may not make it.

Rest assured you are amongst many that go through this shite ! If I can add you are in an unprecedented situation that takes it to another level. Keep up your good fight Sir .

You mean the sequence of numbers and letters? This new car is HW20ETE. HW is the area code. Basically every plate with an H first is from Hampshire - apart from HW which is IOW. The number is the year of first registration. So 20 means the spring or summer of 2020. In the autumn and winter you just add 50 so we'll soon be seeing 70 reg cars on the road. The last 3 letters are random. Our Kuga was HW19NHO - a 2019 car from the IOW. The motability bloke at Ford always gave us a car with an O at the end (in case we forgot our surname I guess).

Trump has done that before last year - bemoaning the Marxist so-called doctors when they were highlighting the dangers of head charging and resultant huge numbers of brain injuries in NFL. Trump reckoned the game has gone soft.

We used to play a family game of going through the alphabet when driving around the island spotting number plates, starting with ADL. The first to Z won. ADL was easy as our mini was 307 ADL.

I was about to say it could also be to do with the great alternative country and acoustic music scene in Austin. I have several touring musician friends from there. Here is one of my favourites. I'm sure spot51 will like the music and most on here, including @onebeat, will appreciate the message. Brennan Leigh "Analog"

Family all came from the IOW, Mum and Uncle born there and all their cars in the 50s and 60's were DL. I even had a Honda Prelude with an FDL plate.
