Get the feeling JWP is going to be our backup rightback as well? Telles' injury at Man Utd makes Williams more important to them as cover, so they are less likely to budge on the fees as well. This make-do attitude is going to come back to bite us, it's so frustrating. I dunno, I'm sure that we'll get another player or 2 in to add depth, but there will be times where players are out of position no doubt.

Still suffering the effects of Long-Reed..... If we don't get some squad depth we'll go down and lose 80% of our revenue so we may as well put a bit more debt on the books as relegation would almost certainly result in administration so what's a few more million......

You are absolutely right there. It has taken/is taking an age to get rid of the last of the dead wood and even when that is all done, the financial ramifications are like a ruddy huge sea anchor dragging the club back. I think jicksters report on Cardiff both reassured me about some of our players, but worried me to death about some others, who we may well have to depend on.

I'm guessing in's may also be depending on outs. Ralph mentioned needing another CB - given our financial constraints I can't imagine we'd buy another without letting one go, so that probably means they're expecting big Jan to leave; and contingent on that, there'll be some cash to spend on a replacement and shoring up the midfield and fullback options. But until then, it's make do and mend.

Re-hashing what The Athletic have just put out. Their Villa reporter says that a larger second bid is expected shortly and the club have spent a lot of time and effort into signing Ward-Prowse. It is clear that they are serious about this.

City will sign Grealish this week (and word is Kane next) but that gives Villa another £100M to spend.
Both Cantwell and JWP remain on their shopping list.

According to an ITK on Saints Forum although JWP will not agitate for a move he is interested in going to Villa and has already had unofficial personal terms talks. (He shares an agent with Grealish). He views them as a step up from us in terms of finances and European ambition and they would far exceed what we are paying him.
Given how desperate we seem to be for cash it wouldn't be that surprising if this happens.

Southampton FC is beginning to look like a transit camp for players. We desperately need another Markus.

A full back. The 'buy back' clause will basically mean it's a loan if he turns out to be good and will be returned to them.
I guess this season is all about short-term survival.
