Yeah, this JWP to Villa link is worrying. When I saw the headlines I thought to myself that we'd probably want £40m for him. Then the stories said Villa were bidding £30m but were prepared to go up to £40m. Quite how people can know this detail I don't know, but I have a feeling that if Villa genuinely want him then it could be a long summer.

I'm not sitting through a relegation season and that would be exactly what it would be as they'd only reinvest about half the fee and you can't replace him for £15-20m

Saints have come out today saying he's not for sale, but we've all heard that before.

You have the Big 6 + Leicester and then the mid-table clubs with far more money than us (West Ham, Everton, Wolves, Villa. We are in the next rung down with the 3 promoted clubs and Brighton, Burnley, Palace and Newcastle.

I know, but the club claim we're aiming to compete with the mid table clubs (and had we not had the injury crisis this year, we might well have hung on in there); but if we sell to them, the board are basically admitting that was a lie and we've given up on competing.

Just look at the famed net spend table for the last 5 years and you can see we finished exactly where we deserved to.

Is it just me or is next season shaping up to be a relegation season.
Key players leaving, unproven or cheap replacements coming in, probably on loan.
Got the same vibe as last time we got relegated, bloody hope not!
The wife cannot believe I am planning to renew my ST for one last Premiershit season

If you're just basing it on that, maybe you should be congratulating the board on performance exceeding expenditure; as teams who've spent more have exited downwards.
