I keep seeing the unsettling rumours about JWP open to move to Aston Villa and the like, but keep trying to reassure myself that there is nothing in it. Also there is the small point of Danny Ings and his currently unsigned contract. The uncertainty is all rather symptomatic of the general malaise at the club at the moment, as the players return and we head for another season.
My personal feeling, for what it's worth is that both players will still be at the club when we kick off for the first game of the season. That's not based on any particular information, just an educated guess. And hope probably!
What do you think?

Danny had a patchy season by his standards and I'm not sure the sort of clubs he wants to play for will take a punt when he'll be a free agent in 12 months. Expect he'll see out his contract and look for a new challenge. His awful injury record has been a massive drag-anchor on what could have been a glittering career.
JWP is a big risk. He is at his peak and being at Southampton robbed him of being part of the best England squad in decades. He is good enough to play at the highest level and, frankly, should be aiming higher than Villa. There are big clubs here and in Europe who would like him.

Unless we get an owner who is prepared to pay we will lose our best players and any forward movement is unlikely. We just face relegation each year.

I would keep him until the end of the contract if the decision was up to me.

Both will go... just a matter of time... Ings this year, JWP next is my bet

Both will go... just a matter of time... Ings this year, JWP next is my bet Saints will demand top dollar for Ings with 12m left on his contract. Those who can afford him won't risk their cash and middling teams will balk at the price.

JWP has done well to improve from spending the best part of a decade as a squad player for us to being the first name on the teamsheet but doesn't have a good enough all around game to interest the big boys. It's no surprise he's been linked with Villa, this is the leel of clubs who would be looking at him but with them, Everton, Leicester, Wolves and Leeds, there are plenty of non Big 6 clubs who can offer him far more money and the chance of European football.

Ings has told Saints he won't sign our contract.
If no-one makes a move this summer he'll walk next year. Could keep us up too.

Not holding out any hope that either will be here when the window "slams shut"

I agree. I did see somewhere yesterday that we are looking at another couple of central defenders, which only makes sense were we to sell the giant Dane
