Morning Scummers
Still too hot so leaving dogs when I go shopping. Mask and hand foam are primed.
Great afternoon's golf yesterday. Good to see the new young star of golf, Collin Morikawa was sporting Zurich sponsorship on his Jumbo shirt. He and Spieth were a delight to watch on that final round and Morikawa became the first man ever to win TWO majors at the first attempt - US PGA and now The Open. Definitively the best iron player in golf and nerveless putting makes him a fearsome opponent.
Looks like Covid had a field day at the Euros Final so it will be ecstatic with nightclubs opening and audiences of 5000+ at the Royal Albert Hall from tonight. Back in lockdown by Cowes Week? Probably...

morning beauties, scorching isn't it?
Southampton FC seem to be absolutely bound and determined to keep us completely underwhelmed as to our prospects for the coming season
Not even one juicy "maybe"… Squads that atrophy do not do well… Squads that aim for "just above relegation" do not do well… This is feeling all a bit "Rupert" to me…

The frightening stat is that, other than the Big 6 and Everton, we now have the longest tenure in the PL. That shows that there is only so many times that a club of our size dodges the bullet and sooner or later it will be our 'turn'. Certainly we are still very much in a cost cutting race to the bottom as the rumoured loan of FF to Celtic (see transfer inactivity thread) shows. The problem is, too much pruning, and relegation will be a certainty and the club will lose 80% of revenue overnight. I guess I should agree with what the club are doing as they are getting it in great financial order for the Championship which is where I would have no trouble with us being (and staying - at least until the Big 6 feck off to the ESL). The Euros certainly reminded us how much fun football can be when it is played between evenly matched teams. Games between unevenly matched teams are far more often than not very dull affairs. I think fans are getting wise to how much money they are being expected to fork out for a team aiming for 17th. The season ticket renewal level seems to be proof of this.

Morning
Urgh, Monday most unwelcome after a pleasant weekend.. sitting sweating at my pooter is definitely not "on". Annoyingly, I have plently of leave to take so on that basis it'd be great to take a day or two off to enjoy the weather, but with my boss and half my team off, I can't.
I'm feeling pretty underwhelmed with Saints too; I guess, in reality, if (and that's a big if) we don't lose any of the key players we might be ok with a couple of additions at the end of the window, but inspiring it aint.

Wandered the streets for hours after the pub, so he did.

I don't mind the sun and heat and evenings when you can sit outside without putting a jumper on- its what summer is supposed to be like!
I could do without the massive amounts of flies about though - From the standard Bluebottles that fly about at tremendous speed and volume for hours on end (I don't know what they put in dog shit but it must be pretty nutritious stuff) to the smaller buzzy types that land on you every 15 seconds and are only truly happy when wandering across your computer screen or trying to get into your ears, to the thousands of tiny Fruit Flies that are just everywhere.
Had a BBQ for the first time this year and got the amounts of food badly wrong. There is enough for the next week at least.
Unless Saints get their fingers out this is going to be a testing season for all concerned. We need several new players and time to bed them in if we are going to manage 17th. Other clubs know this which is why the bloke from Blackburn apparently has the same value as Danny Ings - £20m.

We'll have to resort to complete annihilation that is extreme I know. Saints season is a distant view. I expect nothing and am grateful if it arrives.

Evening
An arse of a day for the third day in a row, although I did get to watch the British GP on my phone. Thank goodness for the clarity of my iPhone. Probably the best RACE that I have seen for years. Verstappen made an error of judgement in thinking Lewis would back down, as he has done several times this season, but he didn't and he paid the price. He won't make that mistake again. It does however, set the rest of the season up nicely. It's going to be "Senna v Prost, The Sequel". Still, the dregs of English society once again abused a black sportsman on social media. What on earth is wrong with us?
Next two days I have at work, which is going to be just peachy in this heat. Here I am sat in the garden with my laptop at 8.15pm and it is still 29C FFS!
I am looking forward to the end of the week, when I should be able to spend more time on here and find out exactly what Saints are doing/not doing at the moment. Skim reading through the comments I see that most are as 'optimistic' as me about the new season...

I hope you are right, it would make a refreshing change that it is not the English leading the way in being complete dick heads. We seem to have made it almost an art form in recent years
