I'm taking my 15 yr old daughter for her first St Mary's visit since she 'discovered' football in June - hopefully it won't be a similar experience to when I took my South African then girlfriend and now wife for a surprise trip to Twickenham many years ago for an Autumn International against a rampant England who notched up 53 points against the Bokke's 3 - she was in tears by the end . . . . . .
Last weeks suggested team line ups were well and truly gazumped by Ralph's dartboard approach, but perhaps, just perhaps, we could make a game of it???
Forster KWP/Livra Bednarek Salisu Perraud Armstrong/Livra JWP Romeo Tella Armstrong II Adams

I think United will "give us a game and/or thrashing" depending on team selection.
Had hoped Pogba would have buggered off by now but the bastard seems intent on bringing his international form to the EPL. With Fernandes scoring with every other touch I'm not confident at all. Young Adam will find it harder too, facing Maguire and Varane after Everton's oaves last week.
Down with this sort of thing!

Oh for goodness sake, don't be such a miserable pessimist! We will score, so 1-8 for me.

Making a game of it is all I'm hoping for. We still haven't beaten United at St Mary's since 2003 so we are due, but this must be our least likely shot at any of the post-Fergie teams. They can ruin anyone on the break, their main bad habit under Solskjaer is unpicking a deep defence although you can also imagine Pogba sticking one in from long range can't you, so I'm not sure what we do.

One thing we've stuck to most diligently of late is keeping those not won @ X for Y years records intact, so I can't see why we'd change a habit. I'll be happy if we don't lose 53-3, but I wouldn't bet on it. Is it on t'elly, or is it just on Sun for the sake of it?

We'd probably lose 2-1 with FF in goal so adding the 2 goal McColander surcharge that would make it 4-1.

Not that I necessarily disagree with you about McCarthy, but what is it about Forster that makes you so confident in him? If we're rating them out of 5 stars as PL keepers, I'd probably put them both as 2 stars. I get the impression some think Forster is 4 star and McCarthy 1 star or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

McC is maybe a 3 at best, but since last Nov multiple events have beaten him down so he has steadily got worse and is probably 0.5; some games he might as well not be there as every shot on target goes in.

Forster isn't a good keeper by any means but he's not as bad as McC. The problem is that Ralph is hell bent on thinking he needs a 'sweeper keeper' and so can't pick FF as he's immobile (not the striker).
It seems a bit odd that, after spunking £20m on Gunn, we didn't give him more of a chance as at least he has youth on his side.

Yeah, fair enough. I think a part of McCarthy's problem is that he always looks so nervous, you can see in his face that he can't wait for the game to be over, regardless of how things are going. He's never got a swagger about him the way that say, Jordan Pickford does for all Pickford's faults. It might be the wrong impression, but it's what comes over to me. I remember Alex Ferguson saying that the Man Utd fans never really took to Brian McClair because he didn't smile very often on the pitch so they didn't rate him the way that Ferguson himself did. Not saying this has clouded your judgement too, by the way, because I do agree that he's a weakness (and maybe the nervous look is influencing me). The end of last season with the keeper rotation was clearly Ralph hoping that one of them would grasp the opportunity and make a decision for him, but it just didn't happen and now we're in a tricky situation.

I think that we need experience, where we can against Utd. SO I would go with:
Forster
KWP, Bednarek, Salisu, Perraud
JWP, Romeu
S. Armstrong, Redmond
Adams, A. Armstrong
But for heavens sake Ralph, use the substitutions well this time

Armstrong But for heavens sake Ralph, use the substitutions well this time The vibe seems to be that McC has won the "keeper trials" and is now first choice. *Livramento will play - ideally in front of KWP with Stu on the left to help Perraud. Just written the intro to my match report. United will equal the record for unbeaten, top flight, away games unless we win tomorrow. Bruno Fernandes has never lost a league game away from OT. HELP!!!
