Very solid performance using a mix of 442 and what looked like 541 with Romeu dropping inbetween the centre backs and Elyonoussi going into centre mid. Looked like we were trying to keep possession over anything else and maybe trying to frustrate City. Certainly wound their fans up. We looked really solid all over the pitch, but didn't offer much of a threat up front. I'm sure the world media will have the draw entirely down to city being crap, so no change there then.
The penalty was right in front of us and looked pretty clear to me. Talking to some city fans at the tram stop, they thought it was a penalty too. I guess the red card would have been for denying a goal scoring opportunity as it was more clumsy than malicious.
Probably, good game management at the end running a free kick and a corner into the corner flag, but a bit frustrating too.

Disgraceful MOTD. I saw the game live on TV. Saints had many chances and they showed none of them until the analysis. Redmond made so many bad choices with his final ball in. Very frustrating. Walker had accepted the decision. He made no complaint at all. What a shame.
Otherwise the team looked like a team. Have my doubts that Armstrong will make it. Hopefully with time.

Brilliant…… but still no win…
More than we could have hoped for there… not complaints! But need a win!

That was a mighty screw up by the officials wasn't it? I think there was a miscommunication between them that led to the error (and it was an error).
It all stemmed from Moss incorrectly giving the red card, when Walker had clearly tried to win the ball, although he was nowhere near it. Then when the VAR told him to check the monitor, I have a hunch that he wasn't clear about why- he wanted him to check the red card alone, but Moss thought it was for both decisions (red and penalty). Then Moss, being weak, felt he had to overturn it but wasn't sharp enough to realise he only had to overturn one thing, not both.
I dunno, if we were 1-0 up against 10 men then we might well have won. 1-0 against 11, they'd have been throwing even more at us than they did anyway and it would have been really hard to hang on, although we had a chance. Would have been nice to have that chance though eh?
And their offside right at the end, I'm still confused about which player it applied to and whether that was the right decision, but I haven't watched that many times to be fair.
Still, another good point that we'd have taken before the game, we've had a few of those now. Wolves look there for the taking and we could do with taking 3 points now though.

My biggest annoyance about the VAR decisions were how long they took to make the decisions, it was like they were trying all they could to give a reason to disallow the penalty then trying as hard as they can to allow the offside goal which seemed an obvious offside from the off

Armstrong and Redmond really weren't on the same wavelength on Saturday.

This is exactly my take on it. No way that decision is a clear and obvious error, let alone an error. If it's not given, then ok, maybe the decision doesn't get overturned, because it's not clear and obvious, but the pen was given, and should NEVER have been overturned. In my opinion, the red card was not correct, and I think that is where the issue lies. The ref clearly doesn't feel he can send him off for that, but doesn't know the rules well enough to know he can rescind the red without changing the decision on the pen. It was shambolic really. I don't buy into the big club bias though (on this occasion), it would have been easier for him to not award the penalty and have VAR check it than go through all that nonsense.

I personally think he just bottled it, because he was being booed by 50,000 Mancs, and because of who they are.
