I loved it at first, because it is a perfectly observed story told from the perspective of the long retired. I am about two thirds of the way through and it is beginning to loosen its grip on me. I just don't feel invested in it any more. Once I got over the novelty of a story of the old, the actual plot was kind of "So what?". It may just be that it is the first audio book I have ever listened to. MrsC loved the actual book. The next one I have lined up is 'Troubled Blood' from the 'Strike' series by 'Robert Galbraith' aka JK Rowling. This is the one that is in production now and should be on our screens soon. I am really looking forward to that, so this is to tide me over until then. Tell you what is a great read. I did find time (during lockdown) to read a paperback a friend's Mrs had just finished and it was wonderful. It is a true story about a middle aged couple (kids just left home) who make a dodgy investment and lose, literally, everything but their van and some clothes. Their farm in Wales is repossessed and, with nowhere to live, they decide to walk the South West Coast Path from Minehead to Dorset. Just before setting off the husband is diagnosed with a degenerative disease but, with nothing else to do, they buy a tent and set off anyway. They can't afford campsites so opt for "wild camping". It was written by Raynor Winn and called The Salt Path. She wrote about their adventure and the apparent improvement that exercise made in Moth, her husband. I started Thursday Murder Club too but never finished it. This I guarantee will hold your attention. There was a nice article about Raynor and Moth in the Torygraph a little while ago (she has a new book out). I remembered a nice anecdote, so just googled it… Winn and Moth get talking to a couple at dinner one night, who ask if the pair have read the book, which spent 85 weeks in the bestseller charts. They had, they said, and found themselves rapt by ‘this couple, they lose their house, he gets diagnosed with a brain tumour or something, then they walk the South West Coast Path. He dies at the end, but it’s a bloody good book.’ Winn responded by stabbing a fork into Moth’s leg, willing him not to give the game away.

I listened to that one. What do you think? I really wanted to like it as I like Richard Osman but I struggled to be honest I loved it at first, because it is a perfectly observed story told from the perspective of the long retired. I'm pretty much all audiobook these days due to rubbish eyesight plus having two hours in a car on the days I go into the office, getting back into running etc... I struggled a bit at first with them but now I love them and tend to get through about 2 to 3 a month.

Highlight was ABK's first cap coming off the bench in added time.
Is this our first current German international? Uwe Rossler had East German caps from long before he joined us.

ABK has got a a great chance of making the WC if that’s his competition. Süle is about as agile as Frankenstein’s monster and Schlotterbeck gave away the penalty but Rüdiger and ABK would be quite the spine for Germany given the opportunity. I think so. We did nearly sign Bierhoff that time but apart from that I can’t think of anyone. They still owe us big time for the Luftwaffe ruining the Southampton aesthetic. They can start by giving us Musiala and Kimmich and we can take it from there. Mount was very lucky that no one seemed to notice that he only put that shot away so emphatically because he fell over in the process.

I actually switched off after Germany's 2nd went in and watched my quizzes. Surprised to see the final result and watched the 2nd half highlights this morning.
I think this new "lite touch" refereeing is bollocks. Danny M missed both penalties. Germany had the nous to commit a strategic foul after theirs and stop the game. England played on for about 5 mins before VAR told him to have another look. Both were stonewall penalties and waving play on makes refs look like arses.
