I know we are mostly softy Southerners who have little or no affinity to egg chasing, but I'm an all round sports watcher and am thoroughly looking forward to the next few weeks - France v New Zealand is a blockbuster of a start tonight (imagine a footy WC starting with Brazil v France!) and then tomorrow we've got Ireland v Romania and a very tough start for England vs Argentina, then Scotland & Wales on Sunday - Mrs ECS is a South African with Scottish roots so she'll be supporting both sides!
My greatest rugby memory, watching the 2003 final in a Twickenham pub, which opened at 7:30am for a 9:30 kick off, a sea of white England shirts, one token Aussie who took, and gave, a lot of stick, one Welshman who had 6 pints of Guinness before kick off, celebrations in the street (I hugged a traffic cop) after the game, an all day pub crawl, LOTS of singing, all capped off with a kebab and half pint white Russians and passing out on a mates sofa at 1030pm.
As for the 2017 final, as mentioned, my South African wife enjoyed that one far more than I did!!

Not a massive Rugby fan, though did go to SA to watch the Lions in '97, but will be watching the RWC.
I watched the 'Boks annihilate the All Blacks a couple of weeks back at Twickenham and they'll be hard to beat based on that.

I'll be avoiding it like it was a really rancid fart.

I might watch a bit, just for kicks.
It’s not football but at least it’s some form of sport.

I’m a huge fan of most sports and normally love the RWC. I think I may find it difficult to get into this time though, given the way England has gone so badly backwards since last time and the dour style of Borthwick’s teams. I’ll watch the Argentina game and see how I feel after that…

Was a corker of a first match. France did not choke and look fantastic.
Not expecting anything from England tonight and think Argentina will be too strong but you never know.
For those that don’t watch rugby too much - England have some of the best players in the world but are poorly managed and have as much in game mgt as we did under jones or selles last season ie. They can be 20-0 up and managed to lose easily.

Stupidly, I waste my sports consumption allowance on some shit second division football team. I certainly wouldn't have imagined Eng-Arg as anything but a formality for Eng.

I'm in Nice again, this time to bring daughter with all her stuff to move in. Nice is a host city for the RWC with England playing here next Sunday. Meanwhile there's an Ironman competition today and the whole city is taken over by both events.

I'm another one in the Rugby's lost on me camp. I went and bought a new telly when England won the final years ago. I wasn't to popular with the staff in the shop as I was the only customer.

I too have gradually lost interest. I used to play but can't seem to enjoy it any more. A good friend of mine actually owns a French pro team (Brive) through a strange sequence of events. He loves it.

I used to be really good at rugby at school with no clue what I was doing. I was fast and broad and that seemed to work. I'd get the ball, run and get a try. I was one of the better players in PE and was asked to join the school team but I wasn't interested - was more interested in guitars.
Now I understand the rules and enjoy watching and wish I'd taken up the chance to play more as a kid

Well that was a turnup for the books, outstanding from England after an absolutely ridiculous red card, real backs against the wall stuff against a team that many had predicted would win against 15 England players - Argentina had no answer against 14 who were galvanised by the sending off.
A great and long overdue team performance, now to keep that momentum going against Japan next weekend!

Saints were playing that day I think. Chelsea Jo and I were going to Southampton so it is 99% sure we were going to football. We walked past a (long gone) boozer in East Cowes where some blokes shouted that England had won. Whatever...
