The system model is flawed but I kind of get it, it’s going to take a while to perfect which means we probably won’t get promoted this season (I have no problem with that as the premier league is pointless for us at the moment) but it could work out well in the long term as the young players adapt to get it right, This system may work to get promoted at some point, but it usually doesn’t work in the Premier League itself. Is it worth the trouble to invest all that energy in changing system?

It has less chance of working in the Championship than it does PL.

I've been pre occupied with our wonderful girls. family and dear friends over the last few months following my wife passing away 4 months ago. The only thing I'll post is . SR are completely out of their depth running an English Football team. I'll always follow Saints , like you, regardless of which league we're in. However, I'm not going to into the minutiae of you fine chaps of tactics, signings , recruitment etc . The decisions they have made since owning Saints have been, quite simply, abhorent in any football supporters language. I'll continue to enjoy IBO. Many thanks for your opinions & posts. Best Wishes , Willshakes .

I am annoyed with the defending, but I think I like the way Martin is trying to play.

honestly, he's arrogant, he thinks Pep Guardiola is God and he thinks he can be like him… He can't.
He cannot set up a defence, he can't pick decent players from bad ones, and he is confusing the good ones we have so much they are becoming bad doing their own jobs.
Honestly, I'm still trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the more I see of "his" football… The more I know you can't play that football with the level of players we have in our club (and to be fair, most other clubs).
We need to find somebody who can deliver us wins in spite of the way that it looks (think of Luton), then we get a whole summer to try to learn how to play football again.
It's either that or we need half a Premier league team to play in the championship like we had the last time we were here. We did it then with that kind of firepower despite management deficiencies, it's possible but not with spoiled children and journeyman.

Talk of the PL is premature, and pointless right now.
I would not really like to be supporting any of the clubs who would be expected to finish 11-20 in the PL - their football is usually stodgy, and the games are tense, avoid making mistakes fests. Obviously now you need a nation state funding you to guarantee you stay up. Outside of that your place at the table is always at risk, and as the richest league in the world (pre Saudi wage inflation affecting things), you have to keep running as standing still can mean a Leicester sized fall from grace.
So to thread the eye of the needle, I'd say you're looking for some je ne sais quoi - Poch or Koeman era Saints or Brentford and Brighton of recent years. If you cant attain that, you give it your best swing, but after the last 5 or 6 years, please lord give me anything but stodge-ball. Though Luton have risen through the leagues, I think history will end up showing that's a possible template for getting to the top, but not for playing at the top. And I don't think we do want a functional, win at all costs manager - do they even really exist at the top level any more?
He talks of moments in the last 2 clubs he's managed where the team has evolved and clicked into an intuitive gear. And that 6 league games in, the players have absorbed a lot but nowhere near as much as they want to put across eventually. If that's so, and the evidence at both of the last clubs is that it is ...then by hell, people need to stop booing or being rude at matches, stop castigating the goalkeeper, and grow the cojones to have some patience.
The realpolitik to this is that he's Wilcox's appointment, so he will be given time, and the club will not do a volte-face. So, he's going nowhere, nor is the project. We can ease the team towards a more positive future or we can weigh them down; we can try and enjoy the ride or we can moan. I totally understand doubts and slumped shoulders after the last 2 results and the hatful of goals conceded, but we're 6 games in and it's vitriolic at times? Ppph.
Not that optimistic of a win tonight, but hopefully we'll see some positives. In terms of our season turning around, the biggest plus we could get tonight is the breezy feeling of the fans behind the team.

Ipswich weren't brilliant today but had a decent away gameplay. Even then the 2nd half team mught have stood a chance had The Great Martino decided to trick us into losing by playing no defensive midfield and our one CDM at CB while we had a CB on the bench.
No doubt AA and Aribo will be the 2 at the back in the next game.

Out-thought and outplayed by a promotion team, at home last night.
When will this shambles end. The goal given away by exactly the situation we all are hiding behind the sofa from. Again, conceding the first shot on target. Now 7 out of 7. I’ve been quick to blame Bazunu and whilst I don’t think he could have saved it the opposition are clearly targeting that side. But Martin is also 7 out of 7 here.
Then a spineless attack once behind.
The most shocking thing is, we all probably thought looking at that team that this is exactly how it was going to pan out.

Not that optimistic of a win tonight, but hopefully we'll see some positives. In terms of our season turning around, the biggest plus we could get tonight is the breezy feeling of the fans behind the team. yes talking of the Premier league is premature, however you have to have long-term goals and that is where you need to be if you need to exist as a meaningful football club instead of just shit week in and week out… Or worse if you become bankrupt (which is entirely feasible for us). As for your "… Do they even really exist at the top level any more?" I'm damn sure they do… And pragmatism beats watching RM's utterly shit attempt at reincarnating the spirit of Guardiola whilst he still alive in the body of an superbly arrogant fake Scotsman. Financially our club cannot exist in this league for a very long, it's just not viable with our infrastructure costs and meagre media appeal. If we don't go up we die, proper die, or we get bought by somebody else like the last 2 owners… All this business about "it will click" is being said by a man who statistically and historically has ALWAYS failed to deliver a team that has "clicked". Doing it in one in every 5 games is not "clicking"… Although to be fair what we are seeing means we would probably be quite glad if they did it only that often! Now don't get me wrong, I have in the past stated I would rather see us play properly and lose than pragmatically and win, and I stand by that. But we aren't playing properly, we aren't doing any of the fundamentals correctly, in fact nobody seems too know exactly what they are doing except apparently RM… Who isn't seeing it "yet". If I could watch our old Ligue 1 team lose playing like they did and this team play in any of the games I have seen while RM has been in charge, it would be a no-brainer. I would watch us lose every week. although I probably would still moan about Nige. being a happy crappy fan is ridiculous, it's like going to church, I don't do that either… I need a bit of proof to go with my faith…

Let’s look at this….
Sheff Wed - Played alright, but they are proper shit - at the death Then bowed out of EPL Cup embarrassingly Norwich - Got lucky, horrendous defensively, needed last minute Plymouth - dominated but needed last minute QPR - holding on. Sunderland - Served….conceded 1st minute Leicester - Served…..as above Ipswich - Served……tight for a bit then powder puff…
We’ve not played well in 8 games. This guy is Jones 2….just got nicer teeth. This board have hired 3 manager who are all out of their depth (see Selles is in the bottom 4 but they have had a points deduction I suppose and Jones thus far unemployable of League 1)
We’ve done it again….our wonderful club is being destroyed by this fecking Danish prick and we need to wake up to what is going on.

This. The closest I came to putting my foot through the TV was when Wankersen appeared on screen.

I don’t want to disagree with you on absolutely everything, Ivan, but do you really think Martin has better teeth than Nathan Jones? Yes, Jones’ look like they are made of playdough, but at least they are natural. Martin’s ivories are so fake he needs to go to a fecking piano tuner, not a dentist. Can’t argue with anything else in that post though…
