That was a weird one. I honestly thought we’d win and had confidently predicted a 1-3 but it ended up being more likely to go the other way. This time we went a goal up with a really nice combination between Downes, Adams and Armstrong and I was left wondering why we can’t do that more often. We never really looked like getting a second though and that’s a major problem. I’ve become resigned to defeat now so I’m quite chilled about it. I wasn’t cross like I was after the Sunderland and Leicester games. I’m just numb now.
Adams and Armstrong (A) are both really funny players. They combined brilliantly on that one occasion for the goal and AA almost repaid the favour later on but couldn’t manage as tidy as pass as Adams had for the goal. Apart from those one or two moments when they combined really well (signs of a strike partnership growing there?) Che Adams also managed to waste the first chance by side footing wide (after a smart pass from Smallbone) when the keeper was struggling to cover the goal and then attempted the worst attempt to lob the keeper from distance that I think I’ve ever seen. I don’t think it even made it out for a throw, it was so bad, and the keeper was miles off his line so it was definitely on but very poorly executed. Meanwhile, AA showed that he’s no Tella when it comes to cutting in on his left foot and shooting. If he’d had that chance against Wednesday there’s no way he’d have found Tella’s back as the ball would have sailed over. I’d totally given up on him and then he found a tidy finish for the goal. I hope Stewart is more reliable as we need a Danny Ings type player who’s completely ruthless.
I thought Smallbone played quite well. He set up Adams and had a decent attempt but still looks a bit lightweight at times. Downes did well for the goal but got caught in possession on a couple of occasions. I didn’t notice Charles as much but I think he shows promise. At least this time we had a recognizable midfield three but I think Alcaraz gives you more attacking threat so it’s a trade off. Stu did OK when he came on too but was fighting a losing battle by that point. Edozie and Sulemana do look threatening but they had a lot to do. There were a lot of strange selections yesterday. It felt like RM was just chucking everything at it.
We all saw Baz concede the first proper shot on target to his left again. He was lucky to get a free kick earlier after dropping a high ball. Holgate gave the ball away but it was a long way out and if a keeper gets a hand to a ball you have to ask why they couldn’t keep it out. It was a decent strike but it wasn’t a worldy. Baz just makes it look that way. THB also ballsed it up by getting into a wrestling match in the box. Apart from that I thought he looked quite solid and I like him but that was really thick of him.
Boro looked there for the taking and that’s the most disappointing aspect for me. I’m not even sure we can compete at this level and now I’m thinking we need to go down again and clear out the club from top to bottom before we can start to improve. That’s assuming that the club can afford another relegation. I can’t see how RM is going to turn this around as he’s been chopping and changing like nobody’s business (except in one crucial area) and can’t find a winning formula. We are in deep shit.

Several hours have passed and I am still pissed off... I'm not sure I am, it's all just developed the sickening sense of inevitably that the latter half of last season had. Maybe it's the case that we need to clear out everyone who's been involved in the last couple of years before we can move on and rebuild. Sadly, by then the parachute payments will be gone and it'll be a much harder job.

Hah, we must've posted at the same time, but came to the same conclusion.

Yep, we are in deep trouble and I was/am pissed off because it was/is all so avoidable
