Southampton manager Russell Martin told BBC Radio Solent:
"We started the game well, stole the ball, were aggressive, scored a good goal and should have scored another one.
"The crowd had turned, the anxiety in the stadium had built up and then when we scored we just shrank.
"It wasn't a conscious decision to then be passive.

I'm afraid with a manager who say's this, a board that are totally incompetant, and the majority of supporters that are dillusional I look forward, to the manager being sacked, the board selling, after the parachute payment & they leave with a profit % SAINTS BEGINING AGAIN WHATEVER LEAGUE WE'RE IN !

I believe in a turnaround. Had hoped it was Middlesborough, and it should have been. Think there will be more pain before any smiles though.
Cant see it being Leeds. Probably even harder a fixture by it being at home.
Low expectations feels like a second home for me as a Saints fan, so will shrug shoulders if we lose this one, a 5th in a row.
He said Manning was knackered and thus Holgate started, so lets take that at face value. I believe he should go with the obvious line up, using the same midfield threesome from last time. We should also continue the trend from the last two matches of trying to base ourselves a little lower down the pitch than we aimed for earlier in the season.
And hopefully we can train some centralised attacking threat into our forward play that has otherwise been absent during September.
Most of all, despite the likelihood of the loss, my biggest hope is the atmosphere doesnt get toxic. We all saw what happened last season on the pitch and in the managerial changes when the toxic atmosphere sets in. This team will be able to eventually win 10+ home matches this season for sure, but not if its a torture chamber.

I haven't had time to give this game any consideration, but am more than a bit apprehensive, as unless the team are convincing, with the impatient Saints 'fans' I can see this turning very toxic very quickly.

If RM wants to move KWP to the left then FFS play Bree who, had he not come down here to watch the Saints shitshow from the bench, would currently be playing in the Prem! |
