Does anyone else look at this thread. See a band / artist you like and immediately think - I wonder where they're playing live and if it's local... Disappointed to see The Bug Club are in Bournemouth on 7th Nov when I have to be in Southampton for a work thing in the evening.

At the moment France has some of the best punk bands around, one of my current favourites is CRAN from Paris. I saw them recently in a small pub in Portsmouth and they were absolutely fantastic; no stage, small crowd but fantastic energy, fun and wonderful tunes. I was going to post a song from their new EP, then I found this live footage recorded in the US earlier this year.

Fast Blood are a fairly new band from the North East who I don't know a great deal about other than the individual members have been in lots of other bands. The drummer particularly is pretty prolific. But their album is fantastic and I play it all the time. Great melodic punk with good lyrics from a singer with a lovely strong North East accent. I changed which of their songs I was going to choose several times, but settled on this one...

Will look out for them - I see they are supporting the mighty Fucked Up for a couple of dates. Going to see FU in a pub in Milton Keynes (FFS) the only date I could make.

I've only seen Fucked Up once. Upstairs at the Kind Alf in Northam. Those were the days. I haven't seenFast Blood live yet, I hope I get to do that soon.

During lockdown the drummer of one of my favourite bands, Chain Whip from Canada, decided to do some recording at home. This lead to an album with him playing everything. The album proved really popular, so now he has put a full band together and recorded a second one, which is even better…

Hello again. I’m starting a week of bothering you with a song from a band who seem to be everyone’s current favourite (at least in my little DIY punk world). Punk means different things to different people, but at its heart it’s always been about speaking out against what you think is wrong and challenging the status quo. A lot of the best worldwide punk is from people who come from communities and nations that have been historically oppressed and continue to be seen as having less value. Anyway Dead Pioneers are ace. I like this. It's kind of a punk version of the old Talking Blues tradition, used a lot by Woody Guthrie and then Bob Dylan. The lyrics are perfect for the genre.

I generally quite like Tone's selections but, as he recognises of mine, it's not really what I listen to to relax ! Pack Rat seem good

That’s exactly what it is, the album carries that on too. Woody Guthrie is quite popular with punks too.

I’ve changed the song I was going to post about six times this morning. The band that’s had the biggest affect on me since first hearing them in 1981 is the Subhumans from Warminster and Melksham. By the time we started our zine they were falling apart, but their singer emerged with a new band called Culture Shock, who played a more ska influenced form of punk. This song was on their second album, and they let us use a version of it on our second compilation tape that we did in 1990. Culture Shock are still going, alongside the Subhumans who returned in the later 1990s (the singer of both bands is also in a band called Citizen Fish). Both bands are still releasing great new music.

I’m getting Penetration vibes but maybe that’s just the north east connection. She’s got a good voice.

Sorry chaps. I got all prepared for this and then completely forgot today. Following the debate about Oasis and sound of a generation, I thought I'd look at my world of Bluegrass and find some of the new young bands who are taking the genre by storm and laying the groundwork for a whole new generation of artists. First up is AJ Lee and Blue Summit, a young band from California who played my festival as unknowns in 2019. Today they have become one of the hottest bands out there and in demand at all the big festivals. AJ is amazing singer and song writer. The guitar player on the right is Molly Tuttle's younger brother Sully. The bass player is filling in while they look for a permanent new one. I love this band -- possibly because they will probably slip in a Dylan or a Dead cover mid set.
