It’s like SAA tragically died in September and no one has had the heart to tell us. At least Dribling was on the bench last night so we have proof of life. I want to see SAA holding a copy of today’s Daily Echo though.
AA can go with my blessing. I can’t face another season of watching him scurrying around for 90 minutes blasting the ball at defenders legs or over the bar. I know he’s scored and assisted loads this season but he should be on about 40 goals by now. He’s like Alan Shearer but only if Alan Shearer was a misshapen gnome who needed ten chances per goal.
As for Che Adams - if he has one more wayward shot from miles out then I’m done. Carlton Palmer had a better touch than him. It worked once or twice and he keeps doing it. Give it up FFS!
If I ever see CNM play again I’m having a party. Why sign a perpetually injured player? He’s no Danny Ings. Tall Paul may be shit but at least he’s fit.
Sulemana can take a running jump as far am I’m concerned. He hasn’t scored all season and can barely create any assists. He’s one of the most frustrating players I’ve ever had the misfortune to watch.

He’s one of the most frustrating players I’ve ever had the misfortune to watch. Adam is I think close to irreplacable at this level, which I'm shocked to hear myself say. Its true he's missed loads, but his best position in Russ' system is as an inside forward on the right, and he's outscoring and outassisting what usually is achieved in this league from that position. I suspect we would have less frustration towards him if he had a centre forward regularly doing what Che did against Preston, because he'd have even more assists. Other benefits of Adam are the work rate, the positional flexibility within games and he's rarely injured. I sure hope the manager has explained things to SAA better than 'we've signed some loan bods to replace Tella so you cant get any opportunities now', because you could understand his eye might be tempted if someone dangles promises of a better pathway. Likewise, I just dont understand how Meghoma plays pretty well in the cup against Watford and then vanishes whilst we use Stephens, Bree and Manning at LB with most performances being indifferent. I think we're not far off an 'everything must go' part 2. Besides having to work out what to do with any returning loans that dont want to be here but arent progressing (hello ABK), Id happily part with Sully, Mara, and Stephens, but I imagine all we will see for them is lowball offers. Aside from Manning, Smallbone, Charles and Edozie, we're potentially going to be looking for an entire team, squad even.

I’m being a bit mean to AA because I’m pissed off but he’s actually won me round this season by working hard, scoring goals and setting up goals for others. He puts much better balls into the box than most of our specialist wide players but Adams is never on the same wavelength as him and can’t get near them. He’s never a Premier League striker but he is a top Championship striker. He does sometimes need a lot of chances to score but I think he would be even better alongside the CNM (if that’s ever possible).

I wonder if the folly in this season is the lack of development time for players we will want to come to the fore next season. Charles has barely touched the grass during 2024. SAA, Meghoma and Dibling have barely been involved too. On the outs, I wonder what the future holds for our star goalscorer and assist-maker, Adam A. I think he's down to one year remaining. Ipswich wanted him before. He will surely be in demand from them again, and others. Me, I believe in fairy tales and dragons and could see him pairing with Ross Stewart and destroying the division. Absolutely...the unbeaten run was a bit of a disaster from that point of view as it made us think we could push on, so rather than working on our team for next season EM has focused on getting us promoted (fair enough) But with the benefit of hindsight, we should have been prioritising minutes for Charles, Edozie, Meghoma etc over the loanees who we won't have next season. The Jan window was a disaster, Rothwell has been pointless and Brooks fairly ineffective. Wed'dve been much better keeping Charly and not getting them in to block the progress of the yoof.

Brooks and Rothwell are funny players and you can see why Bournemouth have sent them both out on loan.
Rothwell has a brilliant shot on him but that’s no good to us if we can’t create any shooting opportunities for him. Apart from scoring the odd goal of the season contender now and then he doesn’t seem to bring much to the party and is injured anyway at a crucial moment in the season.
Brooks looked very classy initially but seems lackadaisical with his passing and hasn’t had as much impact as I was expecting after his first couple of appearances in a Saints shirt.
I don’t think Charly has been pulling up any trees in Turin but I think we’ve missed his get up and go at times and he did seem to have an understanding with Mara, who’s looked pretty awful since Alcaraz escaped.
We were already replete with wide players but brought in an extra one on loan while ignoring the glaring CNM-sized gap up front. Ipswich went and got Kieffer Moore (who suits their playing style much more than he would have suited ours) and he’s pitched in with a few goals. I know they might also end up in the play-offs but they addressed a weakness in the squad while we stuck our fingers in our ears.
