Turned on the telly when I saw Cov had pulled back to 3-3 against the mighty Manure and there were 5 mins left before pens.
Almost immediately, Cov scored, then had the goal chalked off for the tightest of offside decisions. A clear and obvious error? My arse.
The Magic of the Cup is no more, my friends. VAR has truly killed the game we love.
Cov naturally lost their nerve in the shootout. So sad.

Just what I thought and also throw in a dollop of 'Big Clubitus'.

Don't remember var being involved when ManU needed one of our goals disallowed in the league Cup final.

That was so tight, the linesman didn’t flag, VAR is supposed to be for clear and obvious mistakes, With Var involved, maybe player selection should be on shoe size ! the powers that be have got the final they wanted, how dare a smaller club get to a final

I don't really get all this antipathy towards VAR, surely offside is a binary decision isn't it?
You are either on or off… So what difference does it make that a machine helps a man decide given better data but is located somewhere else, or that a man decides from a worse angle but is actually in the ground?
It's just binary
On or off
And yes, I wish Coventry had been given the goal, ABU (anyone but United) has always been my mantra
But come on… Technology is not always worse
Admittedly sometimes the people administering are complete numpties
But it wasn't in this case despite what we wish had happened

The problem is the Offside rule. That used to be on-side, there had to be daylight between attacker and defender for it to be offside, level was on-side. That makes much more sense to me and would make any VAR decision a simple yes/no outcome, like goal line technology. I still hate VAR though.

VAR would be simpler and, to my mind, better if there were no technology to help. If it's a close call in the game then go to VAR, and if it's hard to tell with the naked eye on a couple of replays if it is on or off, then go with the onfield decision. Same with pen hand balls: look at it a couple of times and if it's not obvious go with the onfield decision. That would speed up the process and make it really for obvious mistakes (like the Gabiadini goal v United at Wemberly that was obviously onside, or the Henri hand ball agains ROI).

It's already been admitted that the camera technology does not capture enough frames per second to be able to keep up with player movement so that 'binary' picture we saw could well have been inbetween frames and not giving a truly accurate representation. Tone is correct. There should be something to make offside something that can be easily judged and not this toe-nail offside bollux.

Cricket does this pretty well with the Umpire’s Call system for LBW. It recognises the limitations of the system as well as the human and therefore only overturns the on-field call where there is a clear and obvious error.
No system is perfect (yet!) but the current one truly sucks.

Of the three penalty shouts in the match, the first was close, the second call was correct, but the third was a clear error.
Clear and obvious error. Does nobody pay any attention to those four words any more.

No one but us gave a shit about that at the time and now we’re supposed to feel sorry for Coventry when they are on the end of a much less dodgy decision in a poxy semi final at Wembley? feck off!

It stinks.....
Just when I was feeling really bad about Sat, this happens and reminds me what a horrible place the prem is, how all the bosses and officials bend over for money / rich clubs...
VAR sucks.... this goal should have stood, it might be 1cm off side, buts that's bullsh1t... you can't officiate football like cricket, a thin edge while batting is one thing, a toenail being off side in a fast moving game of active players, is totally different.
Cov were robbed, small teams are so disrespected, he who has the biggest wallet is king, the rest can bend over and take it and say thank you for letting us play.
*** this isn't really about Cov, it more about the horrible state football is in.. I do feel sorry for them, well did for a few mins, I was more annoyed that Man U got away with it... bought it.... whatever
