I know nothing about him, other than I have read on the OS this morning. He certainly seems to have pedigree and he is young, so that's all good then.

Guardian says 6.8 million which if so is a steal given this guy's reputation.
Was voted as 1 of Europe's top 100 young players a season or two ago. I only know him by reputation, but all the sources I've read suggest he is a good allround centre half - with a variety of attributes, not least that he can use the ball. Exactly what we need. Awesome. Apparently also no slouch aerially.

Rather disappointing number of performances for Lyon last season, was he injured or out of favour? I'm sure he's better than Jos/Jose but is he really any good?

Rather disappointing number of performances for Lyon last season, was he injured or out of favour? I'm sure he's better than Jos/Jose but is he really any good? he Does get injured fairly regularly but last year he played a couple of games where he was absolutely slated (and he was crap to be fair) and then fell out with the coach and that was that. Seriously rates himself but this is because he has fabulous potential and he knows it, whether he will live up to it that is the question? Like I said in the good morning thread, a bit like Johnny foreigner, could be a complete fecking donkey or a world-class centre back, probably somewhere in between. Let's see next year

He's a bit like Gaston- loads of bigger clubs (Inter, Tottenham, Liverpool) had an eye on him but weren't sure. Where we don't have the same pull as them we've taken the plunge.
Mad that we've bought a player from Lyon- they are one of the prototypes for what we are trying to achieve.

Also, what I love about this is that bearing in mind we are/were neck and neck with Napoli for signing Astori, we have managed to get a CB in near the beginning of the window and avoid last summer happening again where we seemed to chase one CB, get turned down, chase another, get turned down, chase another, get turned down, and so on.

This is the bit where I wish I knew a bit more about French football. Lets be honest, the reports about Dejan are mixed, but it seems this can mostly be attributed to an injury, a couple of poor performances on his return, and then a falling out with his manager. At 23, he simply hasn't been around long enough for anyone to make a long term judgement. What we do know, though, is that he has played CL and Europa League football and has 17 international caps at the age of 23. You don't achieve that by fluke.
What I think would be interesting would be to make a direct comparison between him and, say, Kana-Biyik, who we were obviously interested in last summer. Do we have the better player? I'm sure someone who knows lots about French football would have an opinion on this.

Having read that article and the thoughts on the new TV deal, I can't help but feel that in general this wash of money can only mean bad things for wages and for young English players.

He sounds alright to me, coming from a big club, with Champions League experience, international caps and at a young age.
Give me all your Lovren!

Can't find the link but quotes I read were he was forced to come back early when he should have still been rehabilitating after a bad injury last season. He'd been their first choice CB, but vented his anger and fell out with the manager and has wanted to leave ever since.
