Football chat in the pub before the game last night, the question of who was the other Austin who played for Saints was, eventually someone came up with Austin Hayes, he played in the 79 league cup final for Saints, he also played for the Republic of Ireland, we wondered what happened to him after that. This morning I thought I'd check it out, evidently he died at the age of 28 from lung cancer, just 3 weeks after he started feeling ill

I remember the name and remember knowing that he died very young, but I cant remember much about his time with us. He was subbed at the end of the 79 final for a player I don't remember at all, Tony Sealy.

I remember Austin Hayes and I remember when he passed away. I used to mix him up with Trevor Hebberd, for some reason. Interesting fact about Trevor Hebberd; his dad used to own the car repairs garage next to the Watercress Line station in Ropley. I think.

I remember them both. Didn't know Hayes had died so young. Sad.
I well remember Tony Sealy having his leg broken at the Dell by that coont George Graham when he was playing for Crystal Palace. It sounded like a branch breaking off a tree. Last I heard he was working for some exclusive Sports Club in Hong Kong.

I used to mix up Trevor Hebberd with Ian Baird, who lived off the Avenue when he played for us, you know.

Workmate is always going on about Trevor Hebberd (well, he's mentioned him a couple of times in the past couple of years) because he used to be good for OUFC BITD FFS.
