I can’t believe the change in JWP and Redders.. both playing his we all thought they could but had pretty much given up. Imagine if we’d let them both go and had to watch them do this for someone else.

The transformation in the team since Hasenhüttl arrived has been nothing short of amazing. From the depths of the bottom three he has dragged the team up to the heady heights of 15th. All the while getting underperforming players like Ward-Prowse and Redmond to perform. Amazing.

He has had really good periods like this in the past, but every time he was always the first person to be dropped. Koeman fecking loved dropping him after he’d had a good game, and Pellegrino did the same shortly after that Watford away game when Prowsey had a stormer and Doucoure handballed it. Today, with PEH back, gave Ralph the perfect excuse to drop him but he emphatically didn’t and reaped the reward. That is just one of the many differences between a great manager and a really shit one.

He's also turned Bedernek into an absolute beast and I can see him being one of the best CB's in the league within 12 months.

I was at work and had to follow the match on the Saints OS live text - where on earth did all the added time come from? Great result though, I was worried we’d feck it up when they scored.

Sounded like both Valery and Long went down in added time and the ref added more time in case they were conning him.

To make up for the number of times I’ve had to give motd a swerve over the last few years, I’ve watched it twice now, plus Match choice a couple of times as well.
That midfield trio of Romeu, Hojbjerg and JWP looks so dynamic. All three are adept at winning the ball and now they’ve learned to pass quickly through the lines. You could not envisage a team under Puel, Pellegrino or Hughes ever scoring either of our goals yesterday. It is also even quite a transformation from the West Ham game, where we were out-muscled by a stronger team. I thought Lemina would be the one who would be most useful in Ralph’s midfield, but I can’t see how he will get a look in at the moment. JWP has completely woken up to the player that he needs to become. I think he’ll be back in the England set-up by the end of the season.
As should Redmond be, who is absolutely effervescent at the moment. He has missed a few chances this week but it is the fact that he is now getting so many good chances that is remarkable. The midfield can take some credit for that, but mostly it is down to Redmond that he is now making those runs. Much credit to Ralph, who has changed his position to enable him to get isolated against slower defenders more. Under Hughes and Pellegrino he laboured as a winger, always just holding the ball up and passing sideways or backwards. I always thought he was a better player than he was showing, but he is on the path to being a superstar now. He has a goal in him in every game.
And those shitty centre backs who aren’t worthy of calling themselves Premier League players. We were supposed to miss Yoshida but he’s not getting back in when he returns. Bednarek has been the buy of the last few years; he has developed so much. Jack Stephens at last looks comfortable in the Premier League. He is showing what he can give us in attack as well as in defence. I wish some of his headers would go in the net though. And Vestergaard is no longer a disaster waiting to happen. This is a very good step in the right direction for him.
We do need to get Ryan back, especially if Targett has to have a lay-off now. Playing Cedric out of position isn’t an option for much longer. If Ryan can’t get himself fit, maybe Vokins needs to be given some minutes to see if he is there yet. But first prize would be to get Ryan back; I sense that he would really enjoy playing in this team.
But the real revelation has to be JWP. He has added strength, bite and dynamism. It is so good to see him not get dropped for no apparent reason, and he just seems to be thoroughly enjoying being out on the football pitch. Super, super stuff.

The transformation under RH is nothing short of remarkable. Let’s not get carried away about our CBs though! . We still didn’t keep a clean sheet and again came perilously close to blowing a two goal lead. Most important is that RH is being forced into playing 3 centre backs when he doesn’t want to. RH said at the fan’s meeting that he doesn’t like playing this way as it invites too much pressure. Yesterday we got 39% possession at home against an average PL team. We can’t continue to do this long term. A new CB is desperately needed to allow RH to get the best out of the rest of the players. And also we have one 15m CB who the manager doesn’t even want in the squad.

I think we need to seriously question whether our CB targets would actually give Ralph what he needs before we commit in January. We need to be absolutely sure that they would be an improvement on what we have; and glib comments like “anyone would be better” no longer apply because the three yesterday have been playing pretty well recently. If we do sign someone else and they take the place of Bednarek, Stephens or Vestergaard, then we’ve got another expensive defender not playing football. If we can get someone who will palpably improve us and enable Ralph to play 4 at the back, then I say absolutely go for it. But if there’s any risk that we’ll end up with just another non-playing CB, with no discernible improvement but 15m lighter, then best that we keep our powder dry for the summer when there is clearly going to be a bit of a clear-out.
