Well, that week’s gone quickly. Time for me to pass the baton on to B3nny…
It’s been tough choosing just 5. Honourable mentions go to:
Odetta “Hit or Miss” which I tracked down after hearing on a TV program and recognised the killer drums and bass that De La Soul sampled on “Buddy”.
Matt Berry - got into his stuff recently. I love his comedy, but he’s also a gifted musician. I love “Take My Hand” and “Beatmaker”, the intro and outro respectively for “Toast” - both brilliant. His TV themes LP is bizarre but brilliant too.
Bowie - “You’ve got a habit of leaving” - the one on “Toy”, not the 60’s version. I love it.
Anyway, I wanted to go out with a bang and those didn’t make the cut.
This is another cover and anyone of a certain age (i.e. pretty much all of us) will remember the original version. I didn’t particularly like it at the time, but it’s much, much better with real instruments…
This will be the first dance at 299 and my civil partnership (although she doesn’t know that yet..! 😜)
Not sure if this will quite cut it with any of you, but it gets my blood pumping.
Happy Easter, all and COYS!!!

Back in 1990,I walked into a club for my suprise 21st birthday party, stunned, a couple of hundred people their, friends, relatives, work mates, everyone I knew I think, with the Black Box version playing on my entrance. So a very memorable song for me.

Thanks for a brilliant week last week 300. I'll take it from here for the week. I hope people enjoy some of my selections.
As I mentioned the other day, I've decided on a theme for my selection this week - because this thread will run and run I'm sure and I will want another go, so this was the only way to narrow to 5 tracks. This week's theme is some of the support acts I've enjoyed live. I've seen some fantastic bands as support over the years, including Biffy Clyro, Gaslight Anthem, the Hives, Gomez, Cast, Badly Drawn Boy, The Flaming Lips and so on... but this week I wanted to focus on some that I believe to be less well known.
My first selection is The Sheepdogs who I saw supporting Rival Sons at the Roundhouse in Camden in Feb 2019 (I checked back on my Instagram). To be honest we weren't paying much attention to who the support act were. We were getting a beer and we heard this very cool, nostalgic sound coming from the auditorium, it sounded so familiar but also a little different. They sounded like they hailed from the 70s but they didn't look old enough, although they dressed like they were. Turns out they formed in Canada in 2004. After the gig I downloaded everything I could get from this band and they've been on constant rotation for the last 5 years.

Very nice Benny. I love that kind of drive - all on the off beat.

I haven't had a chance to delve into this Fred as I was busy last week and my headphones have stopped working with my phone, but am firmly behind the idea and will sample the fayre once I get the chance.

it's a bit MOR for me but interesting, I've never heard of them.
I kinda like some of it, as I have to admit a bit of a Little Feat thing occasionally (but I can't listen to much before I have to stop… And then inexplicably a couple of months later I have to listen to it again!)

This thread was a completely selfish idea designed to find new music. I knew I could depend on you lot from some of the excellent TV suggestions. Last week was fun, but now I can reap the benefits. This is a great way to kick off your week, Sir B3na1i. Reminds me of Kings of Leon a bit (might be a lazy comparison though). Love the theme for the week too - you’ve got me thinking about the support acts I’ve seen…

Day 2 of my selections
This next band is one I'd heard a bit of hype about before seeing them live. One of my colleagues at work had seen them at Download festival in the summer last year and was raving about them. But here's the name drop, when I was at school I briefly tried to be in a band with Daniel Pugsley who is now in Skindred. He was head and shoulders above us for talent, but we've stayed in touch, when I told him we were seeing him twice on his tour last year in Brighton and Southampton he said we had to see Black Gold who were supporting. So we made sure we did.
So here's On Another Level by Black Gold. I guess they're best described as new Nu Metal, big guitars, hip hop front man, dance beats underpinning them.
I don't expect them to pick up many fans here, but I love them so give them a listen.

Not quite my style (but you knew that). I can see how if you like this kind of musci, you could appreciate the band.

I think I may be closer to your lane again tomorrow and Thursday before a change of pace again on Friday. PS - I still need your tips for Nashville if you have any (see thread from a few days ago)

Do you all really want me to do this next week? There’s nothing sophisticated on my list.
