I know, I know….but I hope I’m amongst friends. I’ll keep it quick.
Whilst not ‘at fault’ for any of the goals, with terrible defensive positions taken up by us for all three (a common theme). The truth is, at this level a keeper should be having a few games where they win us a point or three by simply doing their job and keeping shots out.
He doesn’t, he has now sunk to 23/24 in saves made, another keeper would have stopped all three. His footwork when diving to his left is shocking and we’ve looked at this before. He’s currently the second worst keeper in this league after being the worst in history in the Premier League. That second goal, the most important of them all, doesn’t even go in the corner.
It’s Martin’s fault, he and his coaching staff have failed to replace him in the summer of Jan window. They can see the same metrics.
Our play was terrific today, we deserved so much better, but the lack of ‘when called on’ conversion in the key position again spells defeat/draw when we’ve dominated.
What could have been.

Depressingly, I can't argue with any of that...

Yup, interestingly Jo was also somewhat critical on the radio after.
Unfortunately RM has nailed his colours to Bazunu’s mast, so, given how stubborn he is, I'm not sure Baz will be replaced while RM is in charge.

Basically what I said in a paragraph in the matchday thread. Only thing I disagree with is that Baz wasn't to blame for the goals. The first is hit well but as always Bazunu starts from a low position and gets beat at his near post. The second he goes down in stages and the shot isn't all that. He should have saved 2 of the 3

I thought this was about the club in general not just our abysmal keeper.

I only saw the 1st half and can’t comment on the second and third goals. I’m one of his biggest supporters, but even I’m starting to question if he deserves a place. After Downes, he looks just about the best passer in the team.. seriously… but that’s far from enough. I see his development, but in a results driven business and when talking about goalkeepers, I take your point. As for hoping you are amongst friends - of course you are, fella.

You have convinced me ivangolac. Get him out of the firing line for the run in. Not sure McC has the ball playing skills for Russball but time spent watching Lummers from our bench might help the lad. His position for Eire is under threat while Liverpool's #1 is out of action and that Irish guy is getting rave reviews for them. There is a keeper there but still too rough around the edges for either relegation or promotion campaigns.

Watched the goals back. For the first one he is lower that he needs to be but its hit so pure and high that I can overlook it. Second and third goals he does a job of looking like he's been beaten by a genius strike, but he has to do better.
It's just two or three games this season where there was a tangible feeling that he had a good game and most of that will have been about his ballwork I suspect. Not good enough, not by far.
