Us announcers talking Achilles after initially a calf strain. But on double crutches cmg to bench so certainly looking bad.
But not entirely sure that's a bad thing, but guess we'll see. The devil you know and all that.

There's learning in tonight... we didn't use the keeper as an outfield player and we barely gave them a meaningful touch in our half let alone area

It is Season ending - Apparently Baz will not be back this season.

A compliant Preston gave McCarthy no trouble, and it was useful practice for him to prepare for the last four games - each a Cup Final.

An odd decision though to promote the 3rd choice keeper above the 2nd choice keeper - Lumley must be somewhat hacked off!!
However, it was very noticeable that McCarthy played the safe option 99% of the time, and any sniff of danger he just hoofed it clear - which was somewhat refreshing!

It is Season ending - Apparently Baz will not be back this season. Far more than that. It's a torn achilles so it will be 10 months to a year out. A really bad injury. Worse than an ACL tear. We'll be looking for a new keeper in the Summer.

Baz is injured and Saints win comfortably.
Coincidinky?

Baz is injured and Saints win comfortably. Coincidinky? I was thinking exactly that thought… McCarthy is not the best goalkeeper in the world but it just goes to show you what you can get if you DON'T fanny about in the box… (™IM, I'm not impinging on your rights for getting the words "Fanny" and "box" in the same sentence)

Only fly is that this season is destined to end in a penalty shoot-out and McColander is genetically incapable of ever saving one.

However, it was very noticeable that McCarthy played the safe option 99% of the time, and any sniff of danger he just hoofed it clear - which was somewhat refreshing! Also, that the backs seemed less inclined to go back to him and tried, wherever possible, to pass it sideways or forwards to outfield players. I don't think this hurt us particularly. Having a GK who can play the ball around on the ground is important, but need not be the core of our whole playing philosophy. Even with Baz in the team, it has been our undoing on many occasions.

The result had nothing to do with the keeper. I could have played in goal last night. Odd that AM didn't get hammered by everyone for dallying on the ball in the way GB would have been.
