With this whole 'not yet 18, can't sign a pro contract' he is basically a free agent with an amazing reputation (notwithstanding a small tribunal development fee). As well as a decent wage his agent will be demanding a signing on fee which could be quite significant. The sort of club after him will know this and have serious pulling power. NC will find himself in a discussion he doesn't want to be in, not holding too many cards. To keep Luuuke the lad is really going to want to stay.

If he was going he'd have gone by now.

He'll sign for 5 years and probably re-negotiate next year IF/When he has a full season under his belt.
Did you see JWP was on Solent saying he wants to play more. Where would you play him?

Seriously guys?
No-ones moved yet, he's not 18 yet?
My point is our hand is very, very weak...any agent worth his salt will be looking to manipulate this situation, both Shaw's and also those representing the circling clubs. He's effectively a desirable player right at the end of his contract.

And we can do nothing about it. What should the club have done, hidden him in the reserves for another year?
Either NC will commit him to a deal or he'll leave. Nothing that will be said or done on here will change that. What happens will say more about Shaw than Saints.

It's the agent's horse I feel sorry for.

It was just a discussion point FFS. He's basically a free agent isn't he? This will be quite interesting and ultimately could be a bit disappointing. Certainly a little test for NC.

I'd be sad if he went because of his long term potential. In the here and now, however, I'd be more than happy to sign someone of Clyne's calibre, even if he is 5 years his senior. Clyne was the better player over the season and still has years and years ahead of him.

I reckon he'll be straight off to Chelsea. Let's not kid ourselves we have quite the same allure for an 18 year old looking to hit the big-time.

You are correct, he is free to go. However I doubt that he will find higher wages than we will pay. NC is no fool he will know Shaw's value and will meet it. So the question is, does Shaw want to follow in the steps of Walcott and OXO??? Move on and end up with the reserves or on the bench??? Here he will play and enhance his value should he want to move in the future? Bear in mind that he needs to improve some of his game and may never do so. That is the gamble a buying club takes on a young players. He has been skinned on more than one occasion.

I'm sure he doesn't want to be the same as Theo, it must be dreadful with his 250 games for Arsenal, his new 100000 a week 5 year deal and his 33 England caps all before he's 25 years old.

I'd play for Saints for nothing. Frankly, I think it's a bit much these players expecting to get paid.

Financially Walcott is doing fine but if he is to be believed he is not happy as a footballer at Arsenal. But the question neither you or I can answer is, can Saint's match Arsenal's financial clout? I suspect they can if they so wish. I know it is difficult for long term Saint's fans to grasp that we are a new company and things are now different.

Luke will sign his new contract. He has made it clear that this is what he will do; there is even a video in which he says as much. The club also released a statement saying they had agreed the contract and he will sign it on his birthday.
Call me naive but I'm taking him for his word.
