I've got an HTC Wildfire because I'm a cheapskate and I love it except that... HTC's synchronisation software is crap. Basically it doesn't work at all on my new Windows 7 laptop although it was OK with Vista. Judging by a bit of googling it is a widespread problem. Agreed... But the phone is still superb!

If anyone else has given up on HTC Sync I've just been put on to a neat little freeware program called MyPhoneExplorer. Apparently originally developed for Sony Ericsson it will also sync with any Android phone and will sync Calendar and Contacts with many progs inc Thunderbird. So far so good - I've installed & connected it, now to see what it will do. www.softpedia.com/get/Mobile-Phone-Tools/Sony-Ericsson/MyPhoneExplorer.shtmlEdit - it actually works. I can sync my phone with my Thunderbird contacts. I'm so happy.

The Missing Sync always used to do that sort of thing well. Don't know if it still exists.

All this messing around with Android phones is exactly why I love Apple. You buy it plug it in and it works. If you buy in an Apple store they will do the complicated bit for you - register it.
Life is too short to arse about with trying to find some obscure bit of software to make the flaming product work as it should have done in the first place.
Rant over.

It's certainly something to bear in mind. HTC's reviews were so good I thought they had it all sorted when I got mine.
Mind you Mrs R is getting an Unsupported Device error message when she tries to charge her iPhone via a USB cable and the mains so maybe Apple aren't quite perfect just yet?

It means that you are using the wrong charger. If you try and charge an iPhone 4 with an old apple ipod charger, it won't like it. You can't use just any old charger and usb cable. Much like any other phone....

I now use the same speaker with the 4 and it works. Also, when I plug the iPhone into iTunes on an iMac using an iPod docking station with an iPhone 4 socket, sometimes it iSays it is not iCompatible, but it iIs and it iWorks iFine.

Thanks for your advice guys. It seems that the cable is f*cked.
I had commented before on her hauling it off the floor when it falls over the edge of the settee by the cable but what do I know!

if you want something that works straight out of the box I would get a blackberry (if iPhone is not for you?)
The new ones are very good, battery life is good, e-mail is good, phone is good, you can even get apps if you want.
And best of all, you are not locked to Apple for the rest of your life
