After being sucked in (as it were) by the trailer, I watched Spartacus (Sky series) at the w/e....anyone else seen?
Bloody nora...it's like a slasher movie interspersed with light porn, with snippets of the scottish feller out of four weddings in a failed attempt to add gravitas...fook knows how it got by the censors, but in HD, the graphicness of the gore is strangely compelling.

Is that a repeat of the series that was on TV last year?

Is that a repeat of the series that was on TV last year? Could be, or it could be series 2...tbh, the script was such a minor/irrelevant part of the whole, that I wouldn't like to say!

I'm not sure how they'd do a series 2 with John Hannah, unless it was some kind of prequel. I have recorded it but not watched it yet.

Yeah, well we were a bit confused as he seemed to die at the very start..maybe you can explain once you've seen it.

I know what you mean, I haven't seen the second series but the first one was basically light porn with some slightly dodgy CGI gore thrown in. I'm not sure whether I can be bothered with the second one yet but it was strangely awful and slightly disturbing, maybe that's why it was strangely compelling? I think the idea is that they are going to make a prequel but they had some other issues as well as I believe one of the major stars got cancer, can't remember which one? I believe it's made in New Zealand, probably not shown there though as their censors are ridiculously priggish? I will see if the fabulous Internet provides but I've only just finished Sons of Anarchy (Season Three), Boardwalk Empire (season one) & I still have season five of Dexter to watch, maybe I'll get the time some when? I did read that the gore was meant to look like comic book gore. And it was the guy who played Spartacus who had cancer. I don't watch too much TV like this, but I did watch the first series, it was ok. I got a bit bored of Dexter, and I haven't seen Sons Of Anarchy, although I"m quite interested in seeing it as Leela from Futurama and Henry Rollins are both in it.

I can confirm that the Spartacus on at the moment is a prequel. You can tell which series is which by the colour of John Hannah's eyebrows.
They had to make a pre-Spartacus prequel because, as Tone has pointed out, the original Spartacus got cancer. At least Mrs Y won't be able to perv over him for a little while.
It's really bad but strangely compelling and entertaining. It's certainly not high brow and it's never boring. It's like Xena Warrior Princess (including Xena as Mrs John Hannah!) only with her t1t5 out most of the time.
It makes me wish I was a teenage boy again.

Yes, although I prefer him in SOA and Black Flag, and doing his spoken word stuff. And I quite like his books as well.

[quote author=tonesus board=general thread=171 post=1171 time=1301932909 Henry Rollins plays a particularly Nazi individual, his character only appears in season 2, although it was slightly annoying I preferred season one of all three have seen I'm three episodes into SoA season one and enjoying it. It's rather good and can recommend it to anyone who's not seen it. I was put off by the motorbike gang angle but that's not really what it's about as the themes are universal. There's a good cast and Mrs Y and Backwater both enjoy watching the bloke who plays Jax (sp?). Ron Perlman not so much.

When I say SOA I mean State Of Alert, his first band, not Sons Of Anarchy, which I haven't seen yet.
