That night I shall be driving to Kent for a two day course, with a Man U fan.

My flight lands at 0820, straight to hotel to dump bag. Covent Garden to buy a guilt gift for the Mrs and the kids, then find a boozers where Saints fans will be and let the party start.
Be good to meet some of the guys on here pre match. The Mrs has signed off a trip down once a month to St Marys so be handy to know some of you. Happy to reciprocate up here if any of you watching St Johnstone in the Scottish Pub League!!

My G-Grandad worked at Babcock and Wilcox and my Grandad James served his apprenticeship there before buggering off to Calcutta. He went to Moor Park school in Renfrew. The only one of that lot I ever met was my Great Aunt Lily who married a bloke called John Donald and lived in Johnstone. My lot were all Rangers fans. The G-G-Grandad moved from Kilmarnock to Govan where he supplied iron and steel to the Clyde shipyards. Ibrox is just down the road and they were there when professional football began.

I live in Nairn now but from Perth originally which in the olden days was St John's Toun, hence St Johnstone. Johnstone itself is in Renfrewshire as you say. I drive down to Perth every other Saturday and have kept my season ticket, a 3 hour drive for a home game! We're having a good time just now and we've had Europe League adventures (beat Rosenburg away, Luzerne away, been to Turkey and Armenia) so it's a similar period to Southampton with Europe League and cup runs. It's a great time to be a Saint!

Having been given the honour of writing the EFL Final Match Report I have been doing a little preparatory research.
Wembley is making a big deal of the final - it is 50 years since Wembley first staged the League Cup Final. In 1967, third tier QPR beat holders West Brom 3-2. The first 6 finals had been played over 2 legs with Villa beating Rotherham in 1961.
The Old Wembley's maximum attendance of 100,000 was reached for 5 finals, most recently in 1985 when Norwich beat Sunderland 1-0.
Five finals required replays - the first in 1977 needed two. After draws at Wembley and Hillsborough Villa eventually saw off Everton at Old Trafford. The other replays were hosted by Old Trafford, Villa Park and Maine Road. The last final to require a replay was in 1997 when Leicester beat Boro' at Hillsborough. Now we have the joys of the penalty shoot-out instead.
The biggest score in a final was achieved in 2013 when Swansea spanked Bradford City 5-0.

From Paisley - where I was unable to locate the County Records office when we did our family history tour of the UK in 2011. Bah!

Yeah St Mirren are from Paisley. Some team name origins are bizarre up here!
