Expire at the end of the season according to the Echo, but do we need to be concerned about this? I think in their cases we do not need to worry. I know Connolly has been playing out of his skin so far, but it is a long season and with his injury history the best plan would be to see where we are at the end of the season. I suppose to a lesser extent, the same applies to Holmes.

If we are still in this league next season we would need to replace these two to mount a serious promotion push next season. If we did gain promotion this year we would need to replace them also for the same reasons. We need players who can perform at a consistently high level and for differing reasons I don't believe they can. They are two good honest players but if we progress I'm afraid our Nigel will have some hard decisions to make.

What Rags said, though if Conners stays fit this season then he is certainly worth a go for next season as well, whether we're in the prem or the champ. Even in the prem i think he would be a worthwhile member of the squad, though of course I would like a tried and test striker of prem quality to brought in as first choice.
As for Holmes, we really haven't seen enough of him to judge whether he would be any good either at this level or the next. The only thing that is certain about him is that he will spend at least half the season injured.

I can see connolly being given an extra year like jaidi has had........more of a thankyou than anything else. Holmes needs to get fit and then find a team he can get match time with.

Another slow news day on the Echo sports desk then.
Both are quality in my opinion, but in the light of their respective fitness records (not to mention Connolly's age), to offer either of them a new deal at this stage would be insane.
A complete non-story.

I think Connolly could still do a job in the Prem but I don't feel the same way about Holmes.

Who knows... if both stay fit all this season (and in Holmes case proves his worth) then I imagine we might keep them on, it seems to be the new bosses way of doing things.
