Just had a new mattress delivered from Dreams, and the feckers who delivered it wouldn't help me move my old mattress! Only wanted it moved to the bedroom next door (and it's an old hand-sprung mattress so is too heavy for one person to do it safely) but they refused to do it, their explanation being 'look mate, really sorry but it's not part of our job and we've got 4 other deliveries to make today, so you're going to have to do it yourself'.
And THEN... The box and plastic that the new mattress came in, they dumped unceremoniously on the driveway and didn't pick it up on the way out! Just left it blowing around the driveway in the wind.
Just called up Dreams, complained about them and they immediately agreed to send the wasters back to pick up their debris.
Oooh, i feel mildly indignant right now!

sounds fairly typical, Batts... we've just bought a new bed/mattress (£1300 off, which is nice) and the ts&cs are plastered with warnings that they won't do more than drop the thing off..
...service in this country is a thing of the past.

Had a very similar experience with them years ago, but a bit worse when they refused to take it upstairs! I asked what would have happened if they'd got there and I'd been an old woman on my own... They said she'd have to get someone to come and help her... Cuunts!!!!

Fairly typical service you should expect from any of the large chains. Go to an independant retailer if you want decent service. They will always be able to match the bogus discounts the likes of Dreams rip people off with too.

I bought mine from for House of Fraser in Victoria Street in London, they had it delivered and took away all the old trash and even placed the mattress on the bed for me.
It wasn't sheet but, for me anyway, the more money you spend on a mattress, the better you sleep.
In contrast, I bought the bedframe itself from the Internet and it was very cheap and delivered in a box somebody had to assemble.
Oh, BTW, I also managed to get them to take the old mattress away, a few quid and it went with them when they left

We got a new mattress from a local shop last year and it was delivered at the agreed time, they took it upstairs, took all the coverings off and took them and the old mattress away.
All that was left for me to do was to lie down on the new mattress and fall asleep.
Best mattress I have ever slept on as well.

Now that's customer fecking service. On the plus side, i have high hopes for the mattress itself. It is one of those memory foam ones and Mrs Batts has chronic back problems. So it will hopefully help her get a good nights sleep, will stop her from waking me up at all hours, and will stop her moaning like buggery every morning. My life is truly going to change. feck me I feel sweary this morning. Sorry chaps.

I have a friend with one of those, he doesn't have much money, one fairly low income, two kids and a wife that sits at home all day ordering stuff on the internet - He got home one day and she had ordered one of these mattresses. When I went round he told me to lay on it and said 'I can't afford it, but there's no chance of lying awake worrying about it it's so comfy'

Ditto.. with the Mrs' back, I can't afford not to buy a new mattress; I'm sick of being knackered / having to go into the spare room to get a night's sleep. Ditto on the moany* mornings too! *and not in a good way The only slight worry is that the old one was a memoryfoam one too and it hasn't stood the test of time. It was fine at first but it's gone too squidy now. This one was £1k* worth though, so hopefully it'll do the trick.

Interesting Fred...
My uncle used to own 'Dreamhouse' bedding shop which was in York Buildings (behind the old HMV - where the Bargate Centre is now). My Dad used to help out now and again by doing the deliveries for him (mainly during the Ford factory shutdown) and I used to help him. Although, according to the t's & c's we were only supposed to deliver (to the door), we often ended up not only taking the beds upstairs (often spiral staircases), but assemble the fooking things as well.
Rarely did we get a thank you for our efforts... So seeing it from the other side (as it were), you can understand why deliverers do the minimum.
That said, leaving the crap on the driveway takes the piss a little!

Do all our missuses have backache FFS?
Mine blames two epidurals but it may be endemic. I'd sleep in the spare room but we don't have one. We should probably get a sofa bed for the living room until we can move.

Mine's probably dates back to a bad trampolining accident as a yoof.

I have a bad back from two things, playing rugby at school and Ankylosing Spondylitis, so our new mattress was perfect relief for me (Once the sheets had been put on it obviously ... ).
