The Greatest British Sportsman who most British sports fans have probably never heard of.

Couldn't believe the news this morning. I'd gone to bed hearing that he'd been involved in an accident but the news this morning was just horrible.

Yes just heard - tragic.
It sounds like it's a very hairy circuit.

He was a racing car driver, and a very good one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_WheldonKilled yesterday at a race at Las Vegas. Was a big name in the US but was pretty much unknown in the UK despite being born in a village near Milton Keynes. He won their biggest race, the Indy 500, twice and was 2nd on 2 other occasions. The Americans really took him to their hearts and he was a big hero in the city of St Petersburg, Florida where him and his young family had made their home. www.tampabay.com/sports/autoracing/article1197164.eceHe was a true credit to this country and his behaviour a world apart from the mindless actions we so often hear from our footballers (and now also rugby players). RIP Dan.

Thanks for filling me in. I've heard of the Indy 500. Not many British sportsmen are better known in the US than here.

Really upsetting to hear.
Looking at some past motor racing programmes I must have seen him racing at Thruxton and Silverstone, but TBH I can't remember him. However, I have followed his career in the US.
Very sad for his family.
RIP Dan.
