I can't say I enjoyed watching most of that game, but we were great. The defence were superb, and Walker-Peters looked good in a Saints shirt. The goal had us jumping up and down. B did a lap of honour of the front room at the final whistle, mainly due to relief I think.
I was sure Man City were going to score that free kick right at the end.

Yep, that free kick I said, oh well 1-1 is still a great result, was convinced it was going in

I’d like to say it was one of those games that you could tell City were not going to score but Id be lying 😄,
I’ve given Ralph a lot of stick in the past but he got it bob on today, great fighting performance throughout the side, pleased for McCarthy he more than made up for his error against Arsenal

Yeah I’m pretty confused about what irked you so. Earlier the thread, Sotonion was talking about it being 8-1 for a home win, so clearly he put that bet on!? He has also insisted since January that we will be safe, so not sure what’s wrong here either? Am I missing something?
Either way, utterly jaw dropping effort from Saints today. Excellent to a man.

Wow, I’ve obviously upset you You haven’t upset me in the slightest. I just wish to comprehend what , in your opinion, makes a fan of a football team? I’m intrigued. Completely sober Chris however cannot comprehend the inane post ? What on earth are you wittering on about? We’ve had our best result of the season and you are berating someone as they stuck a ton on us winning at 8-1. Fair play to sotonian for having the courage of his convictions. 8-1 is great odds for a home win especially when the away team was nothing to play for and would be resting key player. And, oh yeah, who the f’k is Chris?

Right, that's most of the match page done, stats sorted, pictures chosen, etc. All ready for Spot's report. Brilliant, if exhausting match to watch. And I was home, rather than in the stadium. Bedtime now.

Bedtime now. Should be able to get the report done today. Will be saving my more insightful observations for the match report but for the time being I'll just say: WOW!

Difficult to pick out players after such a heroic team effort but...
McCarthy incredible one of the better goalkeeping performances I remember. Not quite up there with SKD against Leeds, in terms of how spectacular it was but when you consider the opposition it was incredible.
Stephens - I said a while ago, I cant think of many better english CBs at the moment. Since his reintroduction to the first team he's been great and last night was a highlight
Bednarek- fast becoming one of the best in the league.
KWP - sign him up, NOW
Romeu - so long the back up man but he's stepped in and stepped up. I honestly think we would have lost that game, or at least conceded, with Hojberg in the side, he would have given a ball away at some point.

I was talking with friends on Zoom just now and someone made the point that Romeu is back to the sort of form that he was in a couple of seasons ago. That was good from him last night.

Every player did their job didn't they? And crucially, they all knew exactly what that job was and that comes from the manager, he deserves just as much credit as any player. Ralph maybe deserves an assist for the goal, he had obviously pointed out that Ederson is vulnerable if we win the ball quickly after he's played it out and to try a quick shot, worked out perfectly.
After getting the blame last week, McCarthy responded brilliantly and it wasn't just the number of saves it was how good they were. He isn't flawless, but he is a good keeper and I'm happy to have him as our No 1. His hair is going a bit grey though isn't it?
First half we countered really well and looked like we had a 2nd goal in us, 2nd half not so much but the defending was superb.
Let's be fair, we did ride our luck and City would normally take some of those chances, but as I said earlier in the thread, some days it just doesn't click for them and we made our own luck by our hard work and organisation.

I enjoyed that and it brought back memories of 76. Do you remember when Hill (was it him on left wing for Utd?) hit a sitter over the top. It just seemed United would never score. With some of the blocks and misses yesterday, I had that same feeling that was to be one of those days for City. But then I also knew that City have a habit of scoring a last minute goal against us.
So pleased for Che - as was everyone on the pitch. What. A. Goal. KWP was imperious. So cool under pressure and ready to get a decent pass out of defence under pressure.
I wish we wouldn't keep passing back. A couple of times we won the ball in City's half and could have created something if we'd risked the through ball, but we took the safe option. I understand why teams do this but let's face it it, City are going to win the ball back even if we go back to our keeper.
CORY
