A full back. The 'buy back' clause will basically mean it's a loan if he turns out to be good and will be returned to them. I guess this season is all about short-term survival. Ralph's "Top target". Really?? And a buy back clause? How the mighty have fallen. Isn't it just. It feels far more Portliet/Woote era than the Koeman days of challenging for Europe.

We're being linked with Harry Winks from Spurs. I assume we'd only have the finances for this if JWP departs.

I got your points and I am also not a fan of these things but I think it would be difficult to get such a young player otherwise (for a price which Saints are able to pay) and if he plays well he can help the team (of course that makes it much more likely that he will be bought back). Nevertheless, as long as it is an improvement I think it is okay.

Nevertheless, as long as it is an improvement I think it is okay. We need cover for the FB positions so it makes perfect sense. Far more so than Williams from Man Utd who would be looking to start and we already have two starting fullbacks. I think the point Channers was making was how times have changed if getting in FB cover was our key bit of Summer business when windows in the past got us players like Tadic, Mane, VVD and Pelle.

p.s. I guess raiding other teams Academy cast-offs is a necessary evil until our own B team/Academy is good enough to start producing squad players.

Really?? And a buy back clause? How the mighty have fallen. Doesn't sound great, but given Williams loan would've cost £4m and he'll allegedly cost £5m for hopefully more than a season, it seems decent enough business. Allegedly he's very highly rated and some say we may be seeing him push for a first team place sooner than you'd think, especially as he can cover both sides and RM.

So if he just learns how to be a keeper and score goals then we're sorted!

I haven't seen anyone comment on the fact that Ralph seems to be trying Djenepo at left back in the two games against Cardiff and Swansea. If that works, then anything is possible...

I think a buy-back clause just means they get first refusal if we do decide to sell. They don't just have the right to decide they want to buy him at any moment, just that if say Spurs offered £20m then we couldn't accept it without telling Chelsea, who would have the right to match that offer. If they did match it, Spurs would only be able to sign him if the player didn't want to go to Chelsea.
If he can cover both sides, then I guess I'm ok with Valery being our 4th choice FB, although it's a spendthrift way to go about things to have too many players who are cover for multiple positions. The player himself sounds talented though.

No. A buy back clause means that, if at any time, his original club meet the clause in the contract that triggers his return then the player will be transferred. The clause will be a set amount of money (i.e. around 20m for Tino)

He looks a good signing for us given where we are, but bloody hell, he's still got acne. I've got pants older than him!
