Day off, tea and records and a second dose of the Vauxhall Astra vaccine.
Visited dad yesterday, that was hard. He's just a shell of a man, who can't communicate and is just waiting to die.
How come Jordan Nobbs isn't in the Squad for the Olympics? It's madness.

Afternoon Bit of a quieter day today after a manic week, although I will have to work til 8, so not that quiet. All quiet on the builder front too as the bloke who got taken away in the ambulance yesterday had a suspected blood clot in his neck.. thankfully it didn't stick in the brain, but a pretty close escape, stroke-wise. Not much else of note, although I'm looking forward to my crab dinner (albeit it'll be a late dinner). Thoughts are with you OneBeat

Afternoon.
I have been AWOL for the majority of this week as our son had a fall in the middle of the night (no alcohol involved, just dark and disorientated), got up to go to the loo and on his way back missed his footing and went over the bannisters head first, falling some ten feet. Not a mark on him, but he hit his head on the way down. Ambulance called at 3.15am, arrived at 3.25am(!!) the paramedics took him to hospital, no broken bones, not even a scratch. The head is another matter though. The end result has been that he was moved to a specialist hospital in Surrey. Really distressing for both his wife and us. The new place is just over two hours away from us here and we have no idea when we can get to see him, which is obviously complicated by COVID. I have managed to get to see him once this week and it was difficult, as physically he is fine, but his mind just doesn't seem to be working properly. He was just talking a stream of unrelated things and seemed to be paranoid, which they tell us is common with head injuries. Tried to reassure us that he will be better, maybe in a matter of days, but sometimes it takes much monger. Somehow that didn't reassure us.
So, apologies for the lack of a West Ham report. The stats, pictures and intro is up on the IBO website, but I will probably not be able to finish the report until later in the weekend.

My sympathies with both OneBeat and Channonite. You have to be a bit patient with the brain after trauma. It's scary, but time to heal is probably the main thing he needs. As a relatively tall person I already have a fear of banisters, which always feel too low. This just reinforces that.

Afternoon Scummers Commiserations OneBeat and Channers Jr. Life continues to keep kicking us in the cobblers, doesn't it? I met my Surgeon today. Seems a nice bloke and (like policemen) looks young. He is the first to explain how to calculate BMI so I can now work out what weight I need to be before the op. Sounds like it will be in July. Just finished The Killing II. Sarah Lund got her man eventually. Don't know why I missed this on BBC4 but I did. Series III ready to go. Stripes? Meh.

I am approx 6ft - used to be more, now a bit less and the main problem with my height is getting door handles caught in my trouser pockets. Why the flying feck do they put them there???

I had my 2nd Astra vaccine yesterday.... not feeling anywhere near as bad as I did after the first.
Hope your boy is OK Channonite, that sounds horrible. Thinking of you OneBeat, so sorry mate, sometimes you simply can't type what you want to try and say.. I can't imagine..

Bit of a cautionary tale to read too, to be more careful on nighttime bathroom visits.

After a fraught few days we went down to London today (in a downpour of biblical proportions!) for a case conference at 11am. It meant leaving home at 7am and we eventually got home at 6.30pm this evening. The journey there took 2.5 hours, the return journey was just shy of four hours. Needless to say we are shattered now. The good news is that he is making faster initial progress than expected. If he continues at the current rate, then there is a strong chance that he should be able to return home in 7-14 days. There will still be a fair amount of time before he is back to normal, but it was tremendously encouraging to hear his consultant say that he should make an almost complete recovery, which is a miracle, considering the state he was in in the first few hours after the accident. The last couple of weeks have been all-consuming and life has been on hold. Thankfully it seems we can start returning to some sort of normality and spot51 - I can even start to think seriously about the Euros at long last. Just not tonight...
