Realistically, what are England's chances of a trophy? On paper, looking at the team I posted above can any other country boost being able to field six (just in that team, there's more in the squad) players from champions league finalists? On paper it should be a really strong side. Why is it that on the pitch in generally under-performs? Does it under perform? Since Southgate took over we have got to the WC semis and the final of that Nations League thing.

You were talking about the current players though not our history. Either way I think you are, historically, correct. We have underachieved for a country which has had Shearer, Owen, Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, etc. But I think that's the difference with recent times. If anything, we have over-achieved - no one realistically expected us to get to the semis of the last WC especially when we got knocked out in the group stages of the preceding one. The traditional Euro Super powers like Spain, Germany and Italy also don't look anything like as dominant as they have been in recent decades so I think we have a good chance now, although it may be a bit early for our younger players.

Unfortunately Belgium are still around.
And France look terrifying. Best hope there is that they fall out with each other and start sulking. It has been known. We need a mole in their camp.

will England be allowed to win or draw games in the Euros. I thought the post Brexit directive was for England to get NIL POINTS

The problem with evaluating any international side, as I've said repeatedly, is that there simply aren't enough competitions to judge teams properly. Before the Nations League came along you got 2 knockout trophies available in a 4 year cycle. It's like judging Fergie's Man Utd on FA Cups won in even-numbered years. Which is part of why I get so annoyed when people denigrate the Nations League, which is a brilliant format and I won't hear otherwise.
As for England at this Euros, we do have an exciting array of attacking talent, one of the best we've had while I've been watching football. The negativity about the non-selection of a fringe player who probably wouldn't play much, if at all, in any case, is ridiculous. Either support the team or don't, but I hardly think it's worth hanging your hat on whether JWP gets to sit on the bench or not.

Or Germany. They always surrender to them. Germany (nearly) always turn up in tournament mode, and will be there or there abouts. But France must be the favorites, even if they did 'surrender' to Germany in a world war 81 years ago.

France are favourites, England second favourites (although we must take account of bookies insuring themselves against patriotic gamblers and lowering odds accordingly). We certainly have a chance if everything clicks because we have so much firepower that if it clicks we'll scare anyone.
Portugal look like a similarly talented cohort at the moment, a lot of younger players to support Ronaldo who might not be as mobile now but is a devastating finisher and talisman. If anything they look a lot better than when they won it 4 years ago.
Germany will have it tough playing Portugal and France in the group stage, I'd make them 3rd favourites for that group although a win against Hungary will probably allow them to squeeze through as a 3rd place team anyway.
Belgium have a strong squad as well, although I just don't see them winning it for some intangible reason, I dunno why. Spain as well, I looked through the squad and there just weren't many players that made me think 'wow, I'd be scared of playing them', although they are always a good unit these days and could do it.

Either support the team or don't, but I hardly think it's worth hanging your hat on whether JWP gets to sit on the bench or not. Well don't watch them then. Although you may not have noticed that during qualification for this tournament England scored an average of 4.6 goals per game, so I'd hardly call them boring. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2020_qualifying_Group_A But 73 gets plenty of shit for being negative about Saints, while the threads on here about England are full of negativity, in fact 73 makes maybe the most positive posts about them in recent days. I for one really love international tournaments and when England do well in them it creates a feel good factor for me. The current side is one of the most likeable that we've had during my time watching football and I am looking forward to the games. It's funny in many ways because I really can't stand the jingoism that goes along with England and I don't feel much affinity with many of the fans that seem to go to the games. I've not been to many matches myself. But I still support the team and it doesn't really make any difference for me whether there are Saints players involved.
