Had forgotten how exhausting watching top level tournament football can be.
I was feeling tired when I sat down to watch the first game but my attention was soon piqued and the way the game swung one way and then the other was riveting. When Croatia got those 2 late goals I had to feed the dogs and fix my tea before watching ET. Before I'd finished watching that match the 2nd was underway. The Swiss have long been my second favourite side so seeing them repeat Croatia's comeback then win it on pens was fantastic.
Apparently Andy Murray finished his comeback victory at Wimbledon about the same time and during his post match interview he said "Who won the Football? I can see it behind you." "Switzerland, on penalties" came the reply. Andy spoke for all us football fans when he replied "Switzerland? WOW!"
EDIT: Thanks again to ITV for signing up Emma Hayes - her analysis of the Spain v Croatia match was excellent.
This is not my own original thought, but I agree that it was perhaps the best pair of games on TV since the 1990 FA Cup Semi Finals. Oddly both games had the exact same pattern of goals in normal time: 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3.
All the better for not really expecting either game to be like that- I thought Spain v Croatia would be close but low scoring, and France to make light work of Switzerland.

Missed the first hr of the Spain game, wot with it being on during work, but caught it from their 3rd on.. then le surrendeur. Marvellous evening's entertainment, even the Mrs deigned to watch some of it.
NB: No thanks to ITV for dropping coverage for 10mins around the first Swiss goal; they shouldn't be allowed to cover anything.. bank island is all they're fit for.
