Morning Scummers
One thing I forgot to mention when I was talking about how Luis Enrique influenced Italian football was the role of Oriel Romeu. Luis Enrique's first job when he returned to Camp Nou was i/c Barcelona B whose central midfielder was the future Saints #6. So when he arrived at Roma, Luis played De Rossi loads of tika-taka videos showing how Romeu sat in front of the back 4 both as protection but also as the launch pad for attacks. Everything went through him. De Rossi was impressed and when Luis told him that was the role he wanted him to play for the Giallorosso and he copied it. Whether Alfa realises his part in making Italy a better side or not, it is clear his grounding in "the Barca way" has helped Saints since he became a Scummer 6 years ago.
Depressing news from all sides. Difficult to assess which is worst but the news that Japan has declared a Covid Emergency and banned all fans from attending the Olympics is right up there. I see Nick Kyrgios has already pulled out and there are bound to be more. Japan has been, at best, tardy in getting its population vaccinated and to put on an Olympics with no-one watching sounds daft to me. The Countries of the world should consider whether it is worth sending any of their athletes to a Covid hotspot. Fit, young people may not be personally at risk but what fantastic vectors of contamination they would make when they return home. Japanese variant anyone?
Now our useless government have put the economy before the health of the nation they now compound that error by letting the Climate-feckers back to the seas and skies to seek out and bring home all manner of other nasties. They already put out a Welcome Mat for the Indian variant of Covid and are now returning to their original Herd Immunity strategy by sending the human factors of production back to the grindstone just as they let airheads out of the country. Great!
It takes special levels of idiocy to fail to educate idiots who then go on to elect ever bigger idiots.
I shall keep wearing my mask and carrying my antiviral foam. Trust the arseholes at your peril.

Morning (well, afternoon now)
Bit meh out as the weekend hoves into view.
Plodding along sort of day, addressing all the things that built up while I was away / in my busy week. The boss is off on holiday for the next couple of weeks (driving/camping in France, so medium risk I guess) so no doubt there'll be plenty extra on my plate... I have however booked Mon morning off, so can enjoy (or not) Sun eve without worrying about it being a school night.
Wave 3 will be the biggest yet infection-wise; I guess they're testing whether the vaccine genuinely works without any other restrictions; looks like they're heading that way here too now, easing restrictions on people coming in and less restrictions here.. I note that only about 5% of people are wearing masks in shops now it's optional. All I can hope is that work continue to opt for the cautious approach so I'm not forced back into the office.

Afternoon, been on an 8 mile walk with friends today around the Hungerford area. Very enjoyable and the day was just perfect for walking, not too sunny and dry and mild at the same time.
Fed up with hearing everybody's views on England v Italy. FFS. Still, it's only a couple of days. And I suppose it makes a refreshing change from having to listen to politicians.
Just waiting for the next Covid mutation, it's probably already out there somewhere already, I just hope it mutates as the Spanish Flu virus did into a less destructive variant.
