I’m going to a real live game of football tonight. Saints Women play a friendly against Southampton Women tonight at Totton FC. Saints have made a couple of decent looking signings, experienced players to compliment their very young squad. The division they have moved up to looks like it will be much tougher, and the two new players have played at this level, and higher up the pyramid.

Morning Scummers Looking forward to watching the GB Ladies at the Olympics (Covid permitting). With no men's team from here I shall be attaching myself to the the Olyroos where Caleb Watts is the only Scummer on show. Group C looks somewhat daunting though... Another hot day but will take the dogs out today. Heidi has to see the Vet then a quick walk on grass before back indoors. Because Drew was on disability benefits we took advantage of free loft insulation and cavity wall filling when offered. People go on about the energy it saves but this time of year it keeps the house beautifully cool whilst outdoors does an impression of Death Valley. In the post-Euros hiatus I've found a quite brilliant series to entertain and educate. Art of Persia comprises 3 programmes fronted by Samira Ahmed who was let loose inside Iran with a film crew. It is a spectacular account of a 3500 year old civilisation that has kept its art and language in spite of constant invasions and religious revolution. The current regime of the Ayatollahs is just another passing phase because, deep down, Persia still exists and its handsome, educated people are keenly proud of their history and culture. This is really magnificent television and I commend it to anyone who wants to trace how a proud people reached today from the very beginnings of human civilisation. Ten Stars!

I saw on the news that the GB Women kick off tomorrow at 8.15 am, and it's on BBC 2, then realised I have the day off, so I can watch the whole game.

Morning sweaters Like a sauna in here, as it was last night. Delightfully this weather will be with us all week, but it'll be raining at the weekend. Will take a picnic tea down the beach, so at least can get some benefit from this; but too much to do in the meantime. Especially as one of my staff has just returned from holiday and tested positive, FFS. At least the local govt has seen some sense and is reintroducing compulsory masking and indoor distancing tomorrow, so showing some response to the spiralling cases, unlike the buffoons over there.
