I don’t have the red button as such - I have my Dad’s login and watch on the iPad. The commentary tonight (if you can call it that - basically naming players) was a full 10 seconds behind the visuals, which made viewing truly bizarre.
I also get super-frustrated when my phone pings with a BBC sport update and I know someone’s going to score in the next 30 seconds, or realise that a great chance for us will fizzle out because I haven’t had a goal notification.
It was never like that glued to Ceefax back in the day…

On Saints Player, which I can watch on the Amazon Silk internet service on the TV, the sound and pic are in sync. The main commentary is not great, but I do like Dean Hammond as he sees things from the players perspective and puts a lot of stuff into a different context. I think I would prefer Jo T, but Dean H is ok.

I noticed Dean Hammond had a cough last night.
I bet it was a great cough, a quality cough and one of the most terrific coughs he’s ever had.

The red button commentator turned up on time last night.
I feel sad he has to do it on his own though. It must get a bit lonely. If I was him I would also play the part of a Scottish co-commentator (aren't they always). He could call him Billy McNish and do the voice in a cod Jim White accent and frequently describe the action as being "en-tee-yend".

I don't have the Sky like you multi-millionaires, but did manage to get the Player feed for this one. Thought it was decent enough coverage (certainly compared to coping with a dodgy feed), although would prefer them to merge their comms and have Adam and Jo on audio

Adam and Jo are by far the better commentary team and they have that excellent post-match podcast

Probably something dull like licensing

spot51's post in the match thread jogged my memory, Sky Red Button outdid itself on Tues! Screen froze around 15 mins just as we won a corner with Smallbone having his hands on his head and the ref doing a Hitler salute. As Spot said the timer in the top left kept going and flicked to 1-0 when we scored! The screen then went to black but with the clock still ticking so I was watching to see if the score changed again like the old Ceefax days. After about 10 mins the picture returned. But with no commentary, this came back just as we scored the second. I think the commentator may have nodded off when they went off-line... Overall, another entertaining Red Button performance.

It's shit isn't it. Sky's 15m highlights have a proper commentary, multiple camera angles, replays and (not on Tuesday) occasional manager interviews. Unless this is produced later I can't see why they bother with the red button farce...

But the rest of the red button stuff, if you take it in the spirit of 'it's better than nothing', it's nice just to have all the games available in midweek. It's a bizarre experience not even having any replays of goals, but at least you can see the game (most of the time).

The 1st game they left the lone camera on at half time so you could see the stuff on the pitch but they stopped that for subsequent games which is a shame...
