Oh Ok, I thought I was next week! I'll put my first one up in an hour or two, meeting dependent.

I've approached this from stuff I've been exposed to recently that I would have ignored or missed, kind of a microcosm of this whole thread I guess. First up is a guy called Ren who I found via Justin Hawkins Youtube Channel. This was the first track of his I heard and it's one of the few songs that I genuinely wish I could hear again for the first time. It comes in at a tad over 9mins (or side A of a OneBeat album) and, as Daniel P Carter would say contains Heavy Content & Swears!

Shades of Samantics, I'll see what Sam thinks about him when we go see him the end of the month...

I have no doubt that quite a few of you on here will be familiar with the band Slaves, I was aware of them but only in a periphial way hearing the odd song on the radio or a random playlist. Another track brought to my attention by the excellent 'Justin Hawkins Rides Again' Youtube channel, Punk's Dead is a reaction to their name change to Soft Play a couple of years ago due to the historical connotations with the original name - they basically took a load of online comments and put them to music! Featuring an unexpected cameo this song took me down a rabbit hole of their old stuff which is now a playlist regular.

I really liked the first Slaves album, it was released on my mate’s label, Boss Tuneage. Lost track of them after that. I’ll check this out when I get home later.

I am going to cheat today and post two songs by the same artist Jesse Welles. He popped up on my Instagram one day with the first song which grabbed me enough to delve deeper. He's been around for quite a while in bands and solo but has gained a following with his folksy short songs about all and everything. I think these two songs cover the serious and the whimsy.

Day 4 - Dirty Honey - Rolling 7s
Not original, not deep & meaningful, just Rock and Roll & bloody good live too.

The original Iron Maiden vocalist (recording wise) Paul Di'Anno died at the weekend following a prolonged period of ill health. Iron Maiden were the first 'heavy metal' band I got into when I bought Live after Death which featured replacement vocalist Bruce Dickinson. Of course I went and bought all the albums available after hearing it and started my journey into metal/hard rock whatever you want to call it.
This track will be known to some as the Daley Thompson/Lucozade advert and was from their debut album. To mix it up a bit this is a cover version by The Iron Maidens, the world's first (only?) all female Iron Maiden tribute band.

Good morning all
I got back from Kathmandu via a stopover in Doha yesterday and I’m knackered. I’ve got literally hundreds of emails to wade through and then I’ll try to catch up on IBO, including this thread.
I haven’t fully thought through this week’s tunes yet, but have been thinking about this one for a while. I thought Spot was going to use it a month or two back.
I’m not sure it’s a great song for a Monday; it’s certainly a great song, but it is reflective and sad, haunting and brilliant. It makes me cry. My plan was to get the guitars out at our civil partnership last summer and play a few tracks… my Mum was lined up to sing this one. Sadly, we ran out of time to rehearse anything and it didn’t happen. A shame - my mum is still an awesome singer and would have brought the house down.
“Our Lady” Sandy Denny is one of the finest English vocalists of all time. She was the precursor to (among others) Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Alison Moyet, Amy Winehouse and Adele - all unique voices. She led a short and troubled life and is buried near where I am now, in Putney Vale cemetery (with quite a few other star names). I have visited her grave.
Get your hankies out…

Never a bad time to listen to early Fairport Convention. Those 2nd and 3rd albums were and still are groundbreaking and moved the goalposts as to what folk-rock could become.
The band has morphed like a derranged butterfly continually going back to the pupa stage but always emerging with more delights. Still listen to them but 68/70 was very much their finest hour.
