A reminder that the sheer scale of the Music Industry in North America is so vast that thousands of artists have successful careers without ever being heard abroad. I remember listening to Garrison Keillor's "The Prairie Home Companion" from Minnesota on the radio at silly o'clock in the hope of hearing new music. I found any number of performers who were brilliant, from New Orleans Zydeco to the most fabulous vocal groups, which I'd never have heard otherwise. I'm rarely content with modern life but the internet does now allow us access to music sources that we'd otherwise never hear. It is impossible to hear everything as life is too short. Which is why I love this thread as many experiences trump just my own. Keep it up guys. I read a few of Garrison Keillor’s “Lake Wobegon” books in my youth… gentle and wonderful.

Great post by Spot yesterday and I agree, this thread opens my eyes to a bunch of stuff I'd never heard of and it's great. Inspired by Spot's post I decided today would be the day to bring you someone I don't imagine anyone here will have heard of, I certainly hadnt until Sunday evening just passed. And yet she's played Southampton twice this week.
Demi Marriner was the opening act for Elles Bailey at the Engine Rooms last weekend. She played four songs, was then invited back to play with True Strays for 3 songs and then did the whole set as rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist for Elles. Her opening set was great and she explained she was also playing 1865 club in Southampton on Tuesday supporting someone called Sunny Sweeney. A hard working musician with loads of talent.
This is Sin by Demi Marriner and until posting on this thread this video has been on YouTube for 4 years and has had 159 views... give her a listen

This week has flown by. It started with a gig at the Engine Rooms by a solo artist that inspired the theme for the week and has seen two artists featured in my selection. It ends, with a gig at the Guildhall tomorrow evening, by another solo artist, one of my favourite live performers, Seasick Steve.
I'm sure he needs little to no introduction here, but he really is quite special, discovered later in life, making instruments himself and playing a wonderful brand of hobo blues. I love this guy. Here's Internet Cowboys

Here's Internet Cowboys I’d not heard this one before but I like it. It’s very clever.
