Almost as if he knew the bid was coming and they knew he wanted to come.
Can't deny / blame the opportunity. Pretty shitty timing for the club who should feel aggrieved that this leaves a hole at what is about to be a crucial moment. Penny for Russ' thoughts....

Losing the match was bad enough, but losing Wilcox is nothing short of catastrophic.

apparently Saints were refusing to let him go without a bigger compensation package.
So he just resigned, Saints will get nothing and he will get no further wages or benefits from us.
I'm sure however he will be adequately recompensed by Manchester United!
Maybe that means we won't have to have overpriced nobodies foisted on us any more?
Depending on who they get to replace him it's not necessarily a disaster, although I admit it's gonna be difficult to get someone of his calibre and with his connections.

Realistically this has no impact on this season. The bad news is next season requires an even bigger rebuild and at a lower price because we're going to lose a lot of players and aren't going to be able to attract players on loan of the quality of Downes and Brooks or sign players for multiple millions. So this derails the next few years

Just a low rent Lee Mack.
Average player, nicking a living, sanctioned Ross Stewart. Feck off so we can get a replacement with a sniff of loyalty.

His strength was to align different departments and set the conditions for a working pathway through the different age groups. None of us really know whether he's had that impact in that side of things. Time will tell on that I suppose. The first team rebuild and transfers were just a part of his remit.
It's easier at Championship level, but it does seem like a much higher percentage of our signings have worked out this season than we are used to, certainly way more than the initial Sports Republic splurges.
Ball is in the club's court. We can try and squeeze a bit more cash out of United, but I struggle to see much point in us being stubborn. Him sat on gardening leave for 12 months' notice adds to our wage bill and slows down the mechanics of replacing him. One would hope and pray that the club compiled a shortlist for replacing him when the initial newspaper stories floated. Of course, a club who may be a long shot to get promoted, with significant financial burdens might find it harder to attract who we want....

Gardening leave is normally a good idea but not worth it in this case as we won’t be in for the same level of player. I can’t speak highly enough of former Citeh academy stars like Bazunu, Larios and Shea Charles and think they all deserve lucrative returns to Manchester.

Not to mention the goal/assist machine which is Fandabedozie.

Not to mention the goal/assist machine which is Fandabedozie. I think United need some pace on the flank that only Sulemana can provide…Tall Paul is also the only person on earth who could possibly get a head on one of Sulemana’s wayward crosses. Saints could do a BOGOF deal for them. It goes to show how bad Saints were yesterday that they looked more threatening after Sulemana came on and injected a bit of speed. He did combine well down the right with KWP a couple of times and didn’t make any glaring errors so that’s something at least. Saints have got a big squad and there’s no excuse for running out of puff at this stage. I know Tyler Dribbling is injured but whatever happened to players like SAA and Meghoma? Surely they’ve got to be worth a go now, even if it’s just to keep other players (like Fraser and Curly Stu) fresh for the play-offs? Speaking of Fraser, does anyone else think he’s looked like he’s lost a yard of pace recently? Yesterday there were a couple of occasions when he seemed to have beaten the full-back but his cross was blocked and put out for a corner. A while back I would have expected him to put a decent ball into the box but he seems to have lost that turn of pace. Maybe he’s still not quite match fit and needs to build it up again. Bednarek’s distribution was all over the place yesterday as well, especially in the first half. And what’s the point in having a Premier League player like Brooks delivering crosses on a plate to Championship-level strikers like Adams and AA to trip over?

Not to mention the goal/assist machine which is Fandabedozie. 9 goal contributions in 30 appearances largely from the bench. Not bad at all that I love all these new stats. Not a goal, or even an assist. But a 'goal contribution'. Does the keeper get one of those for rolling the ball out if it ends up in a goal? It is all that bad really. It's the same as with Charles. He's another punt for the future which actually cost another £10m. Again more than the transfer fees paid for the entirety of most Championship squads and again despite being bought to play in the PL he finds himself in tier 2 but still not being good enough to be more than a squad player. Not his fault, it's just a failed strategy. Small, Simeu, Larios, Edozie, Charles and Bazunu have all contributed very little to the team on the pitch in the last 2 years. And cost a fortune. The only saving grace is that it's a strategy we can no longer afford.
