Morning
Well, that was a hard pill to swallow. Not that Saints lost, which has happened relatively frequently recently, but that we went down without so much as a whimper. Although McCarthy probably wasn't directly to blame for any of the goals, the tactical changes to accommodate him most certainly were. That and an absence of Downes, who clearly makes the team tick, were the main contributing factors to a lacklustre non-performance.
It is clear that we had all our eggs in the automatic promotion basket, which leaves us ill-prepared for the playoffs. Reality bites, and we now need to contemplate another season in the Championship with fewer resources and fewer decent players. Talking of resources, I wonder how much the changes to St.Mary's stadium are going to cost. The moving of the away fans is no simple task, not to mention all the extra administrative time involved in fans moving from one part of the stadium to another.
Not since the dark days of 2009 have I felt so disconnected from the club.
Off to work this morning, which will at least allow me a few hours not fretting about Saints.

Jeez, last night was bad. I’m not surprised that we lost, I am surprised that we didn’t ever get going and apart from a brief period after half time, we never looked like making a game of it. I’m not that bothered about the players we’ll lose if (when) we don’t go up, if those players were that good we wouldn’t be where we are.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, I have to work today.

I found Saturdays loss to Cardiff Reserves harder than last night. Without Stuey, downes and yes I know you think me mad - but the presence of Baz in goal we were outclassed and beaten man for man. If ever was a game for Stephen’s to play it was last night (just like the West Brom game when we had had a bad run).
However - the season has been up and down. We have Stoke at home on Saturday which is an ideal platform to comeback on. Also Leeds away with nothing to play for might be a good one before the playoffs. If Leeds and Leicester go up in the automatics we will be the as good as all the playoff sides ‘if’ we can find form in last 2 games.
Saying all this - we need Fraser back in on the left , Armstrong on the right, KWP on the right. And please have Downes fit.
Sorry all but not feeling as down as everyone else right now. Think we have a good chance still. And if we don’t we will get stronger this summer.

I'm at work and have already had to tell the Leicester fan to feck off Fair play to them, they deserved to thrash us, but why is it always them? It's getting to the point I hate them as much as ManU.

And in addition and also....
I have had the pleasure of seeing Saints away three times this season - Huddersfield, Coventry and Rotherham. All three games were average to bad. TBF did manage to mostly control the Rotherham match, which you have to take some positives from. Sensational possession figures.
But I don't know where we go from here - I have been watching Saints for over 50 years and I know the signs when I see them despite never having played the professional game. As a total armature I think (Know) that AA and CA missing so often is going to hurt - as it has done for a few years. Add to that the new Jack Stephens multi-positioning thing no-matter-what means having to score three to get anything. With AA and CA. That's not going to work is it? I get the impression of a last-chance saloon for all concerned, and now that some are not that bothered as they should be.
Fact is our results largely dependent on whether a West Ham unwanted substitute's tummy is feeling OK or not.
Coventry did OK this season. Decent manager, pick up some gems despite loosing your best, hope the youth comes through and no fire-sale in January. Start again next year.
But this season is done for me now. Don't want to watch the coming humiliation.

Are the players still papping for Martin or had he lost them? I think maybe they too have had enough of this.

Evening.
299 climbed Ben Nevis today.
I stayed in bed pretty much all day with an extraordinary hangover.
I don’t feel very good about myself. Still, the cat loves me.

I certainly empathise with your thoughts Phil. I'm afraid our club is run by incompetants. I remember trips to Walsall etc a few years ago. The bare facts are we win more than we lose in the Championship. The Prem is no place for us at this stage in our continuing journey. I'm off to one of your favoured places, Fowey, Cornwall in May and I'm going with 10 Close friends all, Saints fans,. We all grew up together. The Play offs are the long weekend we're going. We shall be downing Tributes, watching the game and singing "My old man said be a pompoey fan I said F### ............" When it's over, we'll still be laughing & drinking, Win, lose or draw
